Where to get your Thanksgiving morning latte (etc.)

So many years, we have found ourselves driving around in search of someplace to get espresso, early, before we start crafting the homemade stuffing and all that. So in hopes of saving you a similar gas-wasting experience, here’s what we have so far, in alphabetical order, for tomorrow’s West Seattle standalone-coffee-shop hours, from a combination of in-person visits and phone calls:

Alki Bakery, closed
Bakery Nouveau, closed
Bird on a Wire, open 8 am-1 pm
Bubbles on Alki & on Delridge, closed
Caffe Ladro, open till 2 pm
Capers, closed
Coffee to a Tea with Sugar, closed
Cupcake Royale, open 8 am-2 pm
Diva, open till 1
Easy Street, 9 am-1 pm
Freshy’s, open 8 am-1 pm
Hotwire, closed
Java Bean, open 7 am-2 pm
Original Bakery, closed (Friday too)
Red Cup, closed
Revolution, closed
Sleepless (DRIVE-THRU), 7 am-2 pm
Starbucks (all WS locations), open normal start time (drive-thru is earliest @ 4:30 am) thru 4 pm
Tully’s Alki, 7 am-4 pm
Tully’s Morgan Junction, 6:30 am-2 pm
Uptown Delridge, open 6 am-3 pm
Uptown Junction, open 6 am-4 pm

We weren’t able to get through to C & P or Cafe Rozella – anyone who knows, let us know; we’ll have to run by later and see if signs are on the door. 9:30 PM ADDENDUM: No clues to be had on the Rozella doors; a comment on this post says C & P is open in the morning, though. THURSDAY MORNING ADDENDUM: Added Diva; went by to check, they’re open till 1.

Sorry KCC, we didn’t add the links for all the places … but we will a bit later … In the meantime, Sleepless is a little shack drive-thru at 2255 Harbor Ave.

Poor non-union people having to pull coffee for people getting a paid holiday off.

  • Miss K November 21, 2007 (8:46 pm)

Sheesh!! What happened to people actually closing up shop to spend time with friends or family? I remember when I was younger that all stores, gas stations, etc were CLOSED. Im also not that old so times sure have changed.

hey liquid therapy- most bars in WS are open on turkey day. I myself have spent many Thanksgivings up at the Maharaja after dinner…

grr: Give me a break! An espresso maker costs at least $100. If you calculate that a latte costs $3.50, and you drink one a day, that’s only ~$105 a month, or a little more than $1,250 a year. If you drink lattes daily for 10 years, you can see that the cost savings … oops, never mind. :-)

  • WSB November 21, 2007 (9:26 pm)

Oh darn, sorry, Jen, we forgot them. we did this from memory and had a feeling we were forgetting someone. no answer on their phone now, of course, we’ll go by first thing in the am (gotta get up mega-early) to see …

  • Cathy G November 21, 2007 (9:56 pm)

Thanks for the info! I make my own coffee in the morning but it would be fun to go for a walk tomorrow early and get something out.

  • Jan November 21, 2007 (10:14 pm)

Mr. Loblaw dear :) My french press cost me 27 bucks….makes great coffee…who needs a latte, anyway, hehehe. Good coffee costs me what? 10 bucks a lb? lasts at least 2 weeks…hmmm…does this mean I’m cheap? never mind – lol…

  • grr November 21, 2007 (11:15 pm)

..and..I was kinda being facetious :)

  • dolly November 21, 2007 (11:51 pm)

Those poor people working today; I hope they are making double-time $!

I’ve never had a job that required me to work on a holiday…there’s my first thing to be thankful for today.

  • Coffee Gurl November 22, 2007 (8:16 am)

Give the staff the break they need and close down! I bet it’s not the owners working today.

  • 44th & Graham November 22, 2007 (10:52 am)

    woes the poor baristas…
if nobody went out to buy lattes, shops wouldn’t be open.
why do you think all those people are stuck working the malls until 4pm today?
just to go back and re-open at whatever ungodly hour tomorrow morning for black friday.

    sheesh.

  • Sue November 22, 2007 (11:20 am)

I agree, if there was no demand, they’d all be closed. My husband laments when certain places close early, or that certain buses don’t run more often, and I said that if there was a demand for it, it would be changed. One year, many years ago, I had nowhere to go for Thanksgiving and was all alone, and I sure was grateful for the movie theatre being open to give me a place to go. It would be nice if everything could close for the holiday, but we do have to remember that not everyone also celebrates every holiday. If we were that concerned though about the holiday openings, and we stopped patronizing them, it would change the business decision going forward.

Can’t Amazon Fresh deliver a latte before sunrise?

    =:-D

  • bbilly November 22, 2007 (6:11 pm)

The Shell station on Delridge by the library is still open and they offer an interesting assortment of canned and bottled coffees from a company called Starbucks. Yum. I just bought two of them and a chicken leg and a Rocky Road candy bar. (OK, I also bought a Butterfinger, but I was going to leave that out or y’all would think I’m overdoing the candy bars. Which I probably am.)

Yay! It is Turkey Day on Delridge!
