Two West Seattle Crime Watch reports to share this morning, both involving cars – one stolen, one hit-and-run – read on:
First, from Sue:
On Sunday afternoon, August 9, our 2000 medium blue Chevy Astro Van was stolen at 9200 block of 44th Ave. SW (east of Endolyne Joe’s Restaurant) while we were posting a free sign for our garage sale. Beware, don’t post signs while your car is running with the keys. It only took a few seconds for my husband to post, 25 feet away and someone hopped in and drove off. If you see a van meeting this description, license plate 495 X-C, we’d appreciate an email or call the police.
After Sue’s initial note, she sent this addendum:
Also when we called the insurance company to report our vehicle stolen, he told us how people are having their cars stolen at gas stations. He said when someone goes to hang the pump up, after they’ve filled their tank, thieves hop in the car and drive off. They’ve had several incidents.
Next, a photo and report from Dan, who points out that the license-plate number of the hit-and-run driver is partly readable from the imprint the vehicle left:

I’d like to report yet another hit and run on SW Andover St between 44th and 45th [map]. It occurred this past Friday night around 8pm at almost the same exact location as a previous hit and run that my neighbor Ryan reported on June 13th when his car was sideswiped. [previous report]
This time, the individual (I don’t even want to give them credit that we belong to the same species) was driving eastbound on Andover when they hit my girlfriend’s car straight on. My neighbor Ryan heard something and ran outside to take a look and saw a gray Pontiac (or similar) car driving away. He immediately came up to my house and knocked on my door to let us know what happened. Thank goodness he heard something and I am sure that I owe him a beer or two. Fortunately, my girlfriend’s car is fully drivable and we were able to file a police report fairly quickly.
One bonus piece of information that the driver who committed the crime didn’t realize was that they left a nice imprint of their license plate on my girlfriend’s front bumper. We took plenty of pictures and notified the police and the insurance company with this information. As you can see, the license number appears to be (857–H). So if you see this license plate around, please feel to let the authorities know. Perhaps it may be necessary to investigate putting up a toll booth on Andover since it seems like it is a great place to speed.
