TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Friday updates and alerts

(Six WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
6:43 AM: We start with a transit alert, first one tweeted for a West Seattle trip cancellation in a while:

MORGAN JUNCTION SIDEWALK PROJECT: Today will be the second day of sidewalk work on the west side of California SW south of Fauntleroy. The businesses remain open and accessible.

7:33 AM: Still no incidents through/from West Seattle. So here’s a transportation-news note: SDOT is redesigning its website. If you use it and have some suggestions of what you’d like to see changed/added/etc., the city has a survey for you, and a focus-group invitation.

Anyone else noticing how bad the Rapid Ride has gotten in the last couple weeks?

The schedule mid-day from downtown is totally out of whack. Also, some drivers seem so stressed and oblivious to passengers (and I sympathize with them—it is stressful driving that long, crowded bus) that they miss stops and more often lately don’t pull up to the curb, making it difficult for people who are not agile to make the leap from high bus to curb. I am getting better about struggling up to the front on the moving bus (since I am not disabled, just short and gimpy—and often the only seats are in the back) to be at the front door at the stop and ask for the kneeler if we’re not right at a high curb.

21local route cancelation? Waited 25min and 7:45am at Morgan never came.

While it’s nice that they’re not giving 5 minute warnings on cancellations, 30 minutes is still not enough time. The bus prior to that one is 20 minutes earlier. So you’re really only giving me 10 minutes notice to run out of the house, or get the next bus and be late for work. Again. I ended up driving to a Rapid Ride stop because the one in the Junction is way too crowded. Couldn’t believe it was standing room only by Findlay. These buses are obviously not rapid enough for the growth in ridership, and to accommodate the cancellations on neighboring buses.

Sorry, comment time is over.
