West Seattle Thriftway: Welcoming a new WSB sponsor

This afternoon, we welcome a new WSB sponsor – locally owned West Seattle Thriftway! Here’s their message to you:

You know their faces and you know their names, and it’s most likely because the staff members at West Seattle Thriftway have been working there for more than a decade, if not two. “A passion for what they do” doesn’t even begin to describe how they feel about their workplace. A building is merely an empty shell until you give it a soul – and something we believe strongly in is that it’s the people who work somewhere that make a place special.

At West Seattle Thriftway, the goals are simple and straightforward: To offer exceptional quality and diversity of products, even more exceptional customer service, and to create strong ties to the community through non-profit support, events, and fundraising. “In a way, we feel like we have grown up with our community and have been woven into the fabric of what makes West Seattle so special, which is strong community connections.”

More importantly, in a world of “big box” stores, we feel extremely proud to be considered one of the little guys. Aside from being totally awesome, being an independent grocer and being locally owned and operated gives us the power to be able to bend over backward for our customers. Please come visit us April 20th – 22nd (4201 SW Morgan, at California/Fauntleroy) for a community appreciation event that includes a free grilled sausage lunch as a thank you for all of your support!

We thank West Seattle Thriftway for sponsoring independent, community-collaborative neighborhood news via WSB; find our current sponsor team listed in directory format here, and find info on joining the team by going here.

WS Thriftway ROCKS. I had to smile when I saw their faces. Since I’m in there several times a week – for about 10 years now – they feel like family!

+1 for a local, family run business. Thriftway is great!

Timing coincidental with TJ’s opening? Me thinks not. Good move on their part all the same. Good community store and they’re sure to keep my biz. Though I haven’t been to the new TJ’s tho…

Love me some West Seattle Thriftway. Always very fine customer service. Can’t really think of a time that I didn’t find what I needed there.

  • Jacob April 18, 2012 (5:55 pm)

about damn time they sponsor this site…

  • Sue April 18, 2012 (6:13 pm)

I love Thriftway – was just there yesterday! The funny thing is, when I first moved to WS, I didn’t initially shop there because “thrift” in the name made me think it was a lower-end grocery store. I was actually shocked when I finally got there to see how different it was in reality! I’ve been shopping there ever since.

I love spending my dollars at WS Thriftway, great prices, friendly service, and great selection. They also pay their employees a decent wage.

  • WSMom April 18, 2012 (6:56 pm)

This is my favorite grocery store! Thriftway takes customer service very seriously. Ann in the wine department is wonderful! She suggested I try a canned spaghetti sauce called “Exclusivo – Wild Procini Mushroom Sauce” that is AMAZING!!! Find it in the deli section in a gallon can. It freezes well too (a gallon is a lot of sauce, obviously).

I can honestly say that that is one store that has nothing to offer me within my price range or have anything that would bring me in to buy. Sorry.

  • yo April 18, 2012 (7:06 pm)

I love this store. It’s a bit pricey for me, but I find good stuff there that isn’t readily available at SFWY/QFC. Also, if you shop smartly, than the prices are fine.

I’ll frequent Trader Joe’s quite a bit actually, but I’d likely continue going to Thriftway the same amount. I love some of their sweets, the prepped meats in the meat dept, their bagels, the beer…and more.

We love our Thriftway… I’ve been a regular customer for over 20 years… great service and a friendly staff (good deli too)!

  • Eaglelover April 18, 2012 (8:04 pm)

While I really like the Met, TW is a really great store and shop there often.

  • Oliver April 18, 2012 (8:21 pm)

One of the many reasons we support Thriftway is that they support our community. Just one example – save your receipts and they donate back to your school! If we do happen to go to another store, my children are very disappointed by the lack of cheese samples and no stickers at check-out.

  • 35this35mph April 18, 2012 (8:36 pm)

At the risk of not having any left when I go… Breakfast burritos @ $2.99 with eggs, meats and cheeses from the deli. Best b-fast deal on the peninsula!

the store rocks. their coffee bar features cafe vita, and they have a happy hour in the afternoon that is unbeatable. i drive *past* qfc to go to thriftway, as it’s just a better store with more pleasant employees and less crazy patrons.

Best sandwiches in West Seattle. Period.

  • wseakell April 18, 2012 (9:37 pm)

Love Thriftway! Melody in the floral department saved my sanity for my weddding. She was able to do my bouquet, my bridesmaid’s bouquets, corsages and 10 boutineers for a very reasonable price. And they were so gorgeous with exotic flowers that perfectly matched our colors! She also just did my friends wedding and the flowers were equally beautiful and affordable! Thank you Melody and Thriftway! :)

We love you so much West Seattle! We cannot express how much we are humbled by your sentiments. We hope to continue to exceed your standards and be a part of your extended family for many years to come.

  • cj April 18, 2012 (10:39 pm)

When they have it the best red velvet cake in Seattle can be found in their deli. I hope they never loose the special selection thing that makes them stand out.

  • Jordan April 19, 2012 (6:59 am)

This has been our grocery store for over twenty years. It is the only grocery store that never fails to ask if I found everything I needed and the one time I hadn’t they called and got it for me.

    This store is the best.

  • Jiggers April 19, 2012 (8:08 am)

Ok.. I’ll have to try one of their sandwiches when I get more money. I am a big fan of red velvet cake too..

  • T-Rex April 19, 2012 (8:26 am)

LOVE LOVE LOVE this store. I have been shopping there for 15 years and counting. I love supporting local business!

  • Anne April 19, 2012 (8:34 am)

THE best grocery store!! Every department will bend over backwards to help-from cutting your meat a certain way to finding a great wine you had somewhere to flower arrangements, the gift department, the bakery & deli..just saw the Cuban sandwich in their case..yum! I could go on & on about the store-but it’s the employees that take it over the top..thanks to everyone at Thriftway for making my over 30 years of shopping there the best ever.

  • Velo_nut April 19, 2012 (9:23 am)

  • M April 19, 2012 (12:19 pm)

I live in North Admiral but travel to TW for my shopping. Another cheer for Ann in the wine department! She always has great deals on her end displays

  • Liberty Bell April 19, 2012 (12:41 pm)

Hats off to WS Thriftway. Not only a great place to shop, but a great community supporter! They have been a presenting sponsor (highest level) of the West Seattle Junction Car Show for several years. Thanks to Paul and his staff for helping this event to continue on.

  • Al April 19, 2012 (2:52 pm)

We are so lucky to live within walking distance of this store. We love it. I rarely have a reason to go elsewhere and the customer service always exceeds our expectations. Thank you EVERYONE at TW!

  • ILoveWestSeattle April 19, 2012 (6:59 pm)

“senior citizen” at Fred Meyer is 55 years old…same at Thriftway?

  • TW Girl April 19, 2012 (7:47 pm)

“Senior Citizen” is 62 at Thriftway, methinks too many staff members are close 55 and don’t want to be seniors yet. =D

  • ILoveWestSeattle April 20, 2012 (10:22 am)

Thanks for the info about senior citizen age-requirement, TW Girl….and the chuckle! :)

  • miws April 20, 2012 (1:57 pm)
