They’re the wheel thing: Rat City Rollergirls’ 2010 home debut

Ready to roar onto the floor at KeyArena – those are the Throttle Rockets – one of the four Rat City Rollergirls teams who skated into 2010 with their first 2010 bout today (along with Grave Danger, Derby Liberation Front, and Sockit Wenches). Though their name hails from White Center (“Rat City”) and their home rink is downtown (KeyArena), there’s so much West Seattle presence on the RCRG, they’re practically a peninsula story. The teams battled each other to raise money for charities today – Lambert House for SW, Pinup Girls for DLF, Old Dog Haven for GD, Fisher House for TR. Next home appearance: March 6; info and ticket links for that date and the rest of the season are here. (Awaiting today’s bout stats, which should appear here.)

Cliff is an excellent photographer. He was in West Seattle a week ago at the Polar Plunge and while Patrick and I only waded in up to our ankles to get OK angles of water-braving “plungers,” he pretty much went in up to his waist for the closeup views (you can see him in most of our shots! – TR

That’s a real success story for the Key Arena. I’m sure they pay more rent than that basketball team that played there.

I wanted to let people know about the Rat City Roller Girls work in West Seattle. The RCRGs have volunteered at the Brandon Street Natural Area at Longfellow creek. They have donated over 300 hours to forest restoration over the last two years. Come out in July to join the fun. Date to be announce later.

Sorry, comment time is over.
