Bike Smart Seattle: West Seattle events about to kick off

When we covered the Sustainable West Seattle “Bike-A-Palooza” meeting in April (story here), speakers included a Cascade Bicycle Club rep who mentioned that the annual Bike Smart Seattle program would include West Seattle events this summer. Postcards for this city-sponsored program have since arrived in West Seattle mailboxes, and now the events are beginning. From the Bike Smart Seattle calendar page, here’s the July list:

Looks like some great events. Also the Tour de Watertower race comes through next weekend, see http://www.gomeansgo.org for details.

How about a course: Intro to Bike Lanes

    I already have the syllabus:

If the course you’re riding has a sidewalk, a walking path, AND a bike path (ie Alki Beach) then STOP RIDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET

    Deepness:
you are deeply misinformed in your opinion. Those of us who ride bikes all the time (like me) as a means of transportation have to face our choice of obstacles and hazards in each type of path. For one, the Alki Trail bike path is closed at the beach for construction. The shared walking/bike path portions are often blocked by clueless pedestrians and long-leash dogwalkers. While I prefer to ride the paths, given my choice of potentially running over a pedestrian, getting a little dog stuck in my wheel, or taking to the street and dealing with you, I always take to the street. I typically ride 20 mph when in the street. If people like me are slowing you down too much, perhaps you should stay away from Alki. In reality, it’s the cars that are slowing you down. On Alki Ave. I am always faster on average than cars. I think you need to be aware of these other hazards us serious riders face on the mixed use trails before you pass judgment.

Sorry, comment time is over.
