WS Crime Watch: Alki shots; homeowner tackles burglars

Two items just in from Lt. Steve Paulsen at the Southwest Precinct: handcuffs_2.jpgFirst, confirmation of something we got e-mail about over the weekend: Those WERE gunshots very early Sunday morning on Alki. At 12:44 am, a man heading south from 63rd/Alki “fired 5 rounds from a .38 revolver while driving.” Witnesses gave police a description of his vehicle; several minutes later, an officer found it at Delridge/Myrtle, and found the suspect “in possession of the loaded handgun and ammunition.” They say the suspect “later confessed to shooting up in the air while driving because, ‘he felt someone on the beach had been threatening him’.” and apparently thought that person had something to do with the recent death of the suspect’s relative. No injuries or property damage; the suspect is in jail. Next – three burglary arrests yesterday that may solve more than one recent break-in:

According to police, it started with a call of a burglary in progress just before 4 pm yesterday in the 5100 block of Admiral. The homeowner was napping in a bedroom when the intruder came in; the homeowner woke up, chased the intruder upstairs, and saw someone with a backpack. The homeowner tackled that burglar; a laptop computer fell out of the backpack, and both burglars bolted.

Witnesses saw them running and meeting up with a third person; police set up “containment” and soon caught all three at 52nd/College. Investigators are now working ot see if they can be connected to other recent unsolved burglaries.

Smack dab in the middle of the day on Sunday! Seems like they are getting bolder. The good news, 3 more scumbags caught and fingerprinted.
Just a reminder to all that during the nice weather, keep your garage door closed and house locked while working on the yard. They see you working in the yard and distracted and take full advantage.

doesn’t 12:44am mean that it’s 45 minutes after midnight? smack dab in the middle of the night?

I suspect Joe was referring to the burglars who struck along Admiral in the afternoon, not the guy who fired the shots in the dead o’night/wee hours.

I think Joe was talking about the burglar at 4pm on Sunday, not the wacko firing shots in the air.

WSB beat me too it! I need to speed up my typing skills.

I believe I witnessed the suspects acting strangely in the Admiral burglary before the incident occurred. I’ve reported my observations to the non-emergency Seattle Police number. Thanks WSB for letting me know that there was an incident that occurred!

We were burglarized Saturday, 5/3/08 at 7:10pm. Police report filed. House is in the 4000 Block of 57th Ave SW. We have the suspects on video in the act. Sounds very much like the same guys who broke in at the 5100 & Admiral incident. 3 african american guys, one with a back pack. Video shows they attempted to be door to door selling something, then began looking into the house. They then go around back where we have them on camera breaking in. We were away until Sunday evening and came home to a ram-sacked house. They made off with a couple of camera lens, 2 laptops, one Toshiba tablet and Avertec laptop, small form factor w/burgundy top. A number of other small items, some jewelry. We are very interested in getting our stuff back. Please post if you have any information to share.

Brian, Check the local pawnshops and the buy-and-sell scam shops like the dude down on Delridge Way just North of Brandon.

Brian, it sounds like a matching description of the people involved in the 5100 Admiral robbery.

Wonder if this is the same person that shot up into the sky around midnight in the Highland PK area about a month ago?…..

Sorry, comment time is over.
