We told you yesterday about registration under way for West Seattle Pee Wee baseball; today, we’ve got a preview of West Seattle Little League registration, which is just days away:
West Seattle Little League has seven divisions for kids ages 5 through 18: T-Ball for ages 5-6, Coach Pitch for ages 6-7, Minors for 8-10, Majors for 10-12, Juniors for 13-14, Seniors for 15-16, Big League for 16-18.
WSLL plays most games, T-Ball through Majors, at the Bar-S fields (their city page has some interesting field/WSLL history). Just last fall, the league got a $100,000 Boeing/Mariners Care Athletic Field Grant for field improvements (we mentioned it here in late September); last summer the league also hosted an All-Star Tournament there, and there’s a work party planned next Saturday to help get the fields in shape as spring gets ever-closer. That and other key dates for the pre-season and season are detailed here, including four season start dates between April 7 and May 7.
T-Ball and Coach Pitch teams do play some games at Alki Field, the league says, and Juniors, Seniors, and Big League teams travel throughout the district. WSLL says “all players are guaranteed playing time in every game.” According to the WSLL 2008 online brochure, participation fees range from $80 per player for T-Ball and Coach Pitch, to $100 per player for Minors through Big League. The league relies on volunteer help to keep everything running smoothly, so there also is a nominal “volunteer fee” per family, refunded at season’s end provided they put in at least five hours of confirmed volunteer work over the course of the season.
In-person registration for West Seattle Little League is planned for two evenings later this month, January 22 and 24 – both nights at West Seattle High School, in room 212, both nights 7-9 pm. The league says: “A parent or guardian must be present to register; please bring three proofs of address (such as driver’s license, utility bill, property-tax bill, rent receipt, etc.) and a photocopy of your child’s certified birth certificate.” Registration forms can be downloaded from the home page of the WSLL website.
