West Seattle Halloween: Three days of trick-or-treating

Last month, we reported the days/times for two of West Seattle’s three annual business-district trick-or-treating events: Admiral Treats and Treasures is set for 3-6 pm, Friday, October 29; West Seattle Junction trick-or-treating 1-3 pm Saturday, October 30th. Today, after a visit to the Westwood Village offices, we have their date/time as well: Sunday, October 31st, 4-7 pm. (Till the forthcoming WSB Halloween page is up and running – got an event to share? – you’ll find all this on the Events page – be sure to share your event info!)

I’d like to encourage my fellow West Seattleites to join me in making Hallowe’en personal again. Last year, I got frustrated with all the myths about poisoned candy and made homemade pumpkin cookies. I wrapped them individually, and put a sticker on with the ingredients and my first name and address–just to allay parents’ fears. They were a hit! Parents and children both expressed appreciation for the homemade treat.

I want to help kids and parents realize that, while reasonable caution is fine, the world isn’t as scary a place as TV news would have you believe.

I realize some people get way more trick-or-treaters than we do, and many people simply don’t have time for this kind of thing. But if you have the time to make enough treats for your normal trick-or-treat load, think how we could turn a commercial grab-as-much-as-you-can candy frenzy into a fun, neighborly celebration!
