JoBParticipantMike..
it would also have been dependent upon Rush’s subsequent actions…
he chose to single out two more women for the same kind of abuse immediately after his “aplogy” for his abusive language towards women..
call me skeptical if you will
but i don’t think that shows sincerity

miwsParticipantOh, believe me, JoB. I would never be among those “more people” I referenced above!
I just probably wouldn’t be rolling my eyes so much at the comments of those that seem to have accepted it.

westseamikeMemberChurches don’t like government saying they might have to provide care that does not flow with their beliefs, fine by me. However, then I also ask all non-profit religious groups to forfeit their non-profit status and start paying taxes. DOH! Uh oh, now they can’t be a tax shelter…OH NOES! The mega churches will hate having to pay taxes on all that stock their followers ‘donate’ to them. Bet people didn’t know that’s a big money maker for these big churches huh? Guess who’s one of the biggest share holders of Microsoft? http://www.occ.org/other-giving-options/ Chaching! $$$$$
As for the feminist topic and all that, here’s a pretty successful lady, Sara Blakely. Should be a very empowering role model, she’s almost as wealthy as Oprah and JK Rowling (Harry Potter author).

waterworldParticipantWestseamike: your post prompted me to pull up the Forbes list of the 400 richest people in America. I scrolled through it, looking for bios of fabulously wealthy women who had earned their fortunes the “American way,” by hard work, creativity, perseverance, and maybe some good luck or great timing. In vain. It’s possible I missed someone, but if I did not, then among those 400 incredibly rich people, there are only two women who apparently made their fortunes on her own. (One of them we all know very well, Oprah Winfrey, number 139; the other is Meg Whitman, number 331, CEO of HP and formerly of EBay.)
Most of the women on that list (and there are not many of them) got rich the truly old-fashioned way — by inheriting it. They inherited from fathers, grandfathers, husbands, and other men in their families. Mostly white men. A few women hold the distinction of having worked in the fledgling business with their husbands, but nothing really suggests that the woman in those partnerships were the driving force. Take away financial success through inheritance, and there are a dearth of women at the top of the pile of money.
I understand that it takes time, generations, to overcome hundreds or thousands of years of inequality. The reasons for the absence of women on the Forbes list has little to do with relative merit and much to do with bias. The glass ceiling is not a creature of myth; it’s sadly a very real barrier for the women of my generation — women who have excelled at every level of their professions and businesses, only to see time and again men of equal or less ability earning more and being promoted higher. There are the occasional amazing success stories like that of Sara Blakely or Oprah Winfrey — often in fields or specialties men have ignored. They are still so few and far between, though, that it seems it will be many years before women will be able to trust that the playing field has truly leveled out. I do not think that men alone afe responsible for this phenomenon. Nor do I believe women alone will be able to being about the further change that is required to make this a nation of truly equal opportunity.
In the meantime, I’m grateful for the benefits I have that are the direct result of the work of the women of my mother’s generation and I’m motivated to continue the work to gain true equality for the women of the next generation. Someday, crap like Rich’s statement that the “natural inclination” of men to lead explains the overwhelming preference for men at the highest levels of business and politics will be recognized as the crap that it is.

kootchmanMemberSee this JoB
“if i had the energy i would go get the link to the article about women leaving the church because they no longer feel represented in a hierarchy in which their 13yr old sons may have more authority than they do.”
Perfect… and the church has no authority to force her into the fold. It’s called free association. Now, if you don’t like the philosophy of those you work for…. quit! Go to work for someone you can mind meld with. It’s that simple.
Conservatives who DO support access to birth control… as most people do… they too are lining up in support of the Catholic Church.
Rush must be chortling… all those advertisers are under contract and have to pay anyway…. and he gets a second stream of revenue from new advertisers. It was a pig comment..totally not gentlemanly words. That’s what he does…he agitates for a living.. you think the “dittoheads” are going to stop listening? You think they are no longer a target market for someone? Sincere or not… let’s hear that Mahar apology… never a word from the feminists or lame stream media.though..not until an “approved sister” got vilified. To quote a female QFC shopper… I” don’t care .. I want to know why the peanut butter is so damn expensive” touche’

kootchmanMemberI got a stat for ya waterworld…
he top four revenue-generating industries were identical for businesses owned by women, men, and by women and men together; they were construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, and retail trade.
Woman owned start-ups are more frequent then male start-ups. No matter how you slice it… owners are the big winners.(also losers) .not employees. They are in the pipeline.
Here’s the sad part though…. start-ups have fallen over 48 per cent in the last three years. Hmmmm …traditionally start ups come after recessions. Recessions create loose and unattached talent .. the misfits with the great ideas that didn’t get organizatonal recognition. I’d say vote for the most pro business candidates …. it’s the road to equality.
Take a bigger slice for a sample size…
In North America, male millionaires far outnumber female millionaires: 63% of North American millionaires are men, and 37% are women.
add to that… there are more females in colleges taking business, finance and economica… in many schools, the majority… here’ why…
“Why are millionaires doing so much better than everyone else? Financial markets. Remember, the rich depend on financial markets (which have rebounded) while the rest of America depends on jobs and homes for wealth–both of which remain in a slump. “
While you might whine about discrimination…. the path is pretty straightforward… if you want to make the big green… you gotta go where the big green is… it ain’t comin’ to look for you. An anthropology degree probably isn’t going to get you there, or a gender studies major,, social worker etc….
Tell ya what JoB… I ain’t telling mine how “unfair” unjust, sexist the world is… I am exposing her to other things… and if she wants to be a professional anything….. own the company, the practice, clinic etc.. wanna teach? Great! Own a private school that takes a whack at 25 students paying 25K each per year for tuition.

kootchmanMemberweseamike…. just for fun… imagine if all those meanie churches, for instance decide to get out of the non-profit business… now remember the state of WA HAS to by constitutional mandate provide an education up to 12th grade. All those horrid institutions just dump say…. about 80,000 students on the state of WA? Ready to come up the taxes for that? How about the hundreds of shelters for the homeless? Emergency shelters of battered women, food kitchens? vocational training, elder care visiting, retirement/nursing homes, tutoring programs. food and clothing banks, mentoring programs … getting the picture here? WA state would go bankrupt just trying to take on the education role…. and those churches members also support the public school system. Figure just for the average expense..not including the billion or so in new constructions… $12,000 per student…. about a billion a year….? And more importantly, these are some of the best schools, with the highest graduation rates in the state… your economic future. The state would have to build about 175 new schools…. immediately. sorta makes ya think.. or it should. This is a state with a 1.5 billion deficit now… and cutting basic ed, higher ed, and all manner of programs not mandated by the constitution.

JoBParticipantkootch..
the only one whining here is you.
or have you become so accustomed to not listening to women that your inner filter takes over every time they open their mouths and whispers
whine .. whine.. whine..
March 15, 2012 at 4:24 pm #749775
kootchmanMemberI listen… and I don’t believe it as draconian as you want it to be either. Stepping back, in perspective, the way it really is… not the way it was… the sack cloth is overdone.
Jan I did ask… in some cases yes. The later the more likely. However, if the patient chooses not to look that is respected. There is no medical reason it has to be shared with the patient. Informed consent does not require it,…informed can mean dialogue.
But JoB you do make a good point about collateral damage. Would I vote for a conservative who was not a vehement feminist, in exchange for, repeal of Obamacare, lower taxes, 15% capital gains tax, elimination of collective bargaining for civil servants, merit pay for excellent teachers and elimination of seniority. and a balanced federal budget, and wars of necessity only? Yes. Oh yea… Look at the collateral damage from this president. we are taking it by the planeload.
March 15, 2012 at 4:43 pm #749776
JoBParticipantkootch..
again.. no sack cloth
just statement of the facts
I didn’t invent the current move to make the availability of birth control medication a thing of the past for women..
I know.. i know.. you say women can get birth control medication anywhere..
you think they should just have to pay for it out of their own pockets if their employer thinks they shouldn’t have it…
LOL..
the problem is that you can’t see how wrong even that basic assumption is…
but even if that were acceptable..
and it definately is not
the reality is that a woman still has to find a pharmacist who thinks it’s ok for women to have birth control medication…
after she finds a doctor who thinks it’s ok..
or more accurately… if this latest atrocity passes through congress
they will have to find a doctor whose employer thinks it’s ok for them to prescribe birth control medication
in other words, women would be forced to find someone who agrees that it’s ok for them to purchase the medication their doctor prescribes for them… if their doctor can prescribe it.
and you think that is ok?
i grew up during a time when this was women’s reality…
I still live in a time where that is the reality for people who are prescribed pain medication for chronic pain…
I know it’s not ok.
and this is what you are passing off as equality?
No..
if the rights of the organization
and/or person who would offer the insurance,
and/or who would offer the medication,
and/or who would provide the medication
are far more important than the right of the woman to have her prescription filled in the same manner that all other citizens get their prescriptions filled.
that is not equality
when you legislate one group of citizens rights as being more important than another..
you legislate inequality.
when the group of citizens being legislated against constitutes an entire sex…
that’s discrimination
It really is sad that you can’t see that…
Any more than you can see that requiring unnecessary medical procedures to increase the cost of abortions doesn’t lead to dialogue.
it simply increases the cost of abortions
putting them out of reach for those without funding
but then.. that’s the intent, isn’t it?
circumventing legal access any way you can
because you believe your morals are more important
than legality or the rights of the women who will have to assume the legal, moral and financial responsibility for any children they carry to term and successfully deliver..
if you can’t change the law
you believe it is just to circumvent it
to enforce your own sense of “morality”
stop pussyfooting around kootch and own up to it
and while you are at it
explain to your kid why you think it’s ok to make her a second class citizen
after all
it’s for her own good
isn’t it?

oddrealityParticipantI’d be slightly less unhappy with the Catholic church , or any other church ,when it stops taking 2.9 billion dollars of tax payer money yearly to fund its charities. They used to fund their own charities, and still should, till Bush 2 gave them free money from us. That needs to be rescinded. I don’t want my tax dollars subsidizing religions. That is not freedom of/from religion is it??The separation of church and state needs to be put back in place. If they want tax dollars they need to be paying taxes. If they want to meddle in politics they need to pay taxes. They do not need free money form the rest of us.
March 16, 2012 at 3:38 am #749778
westseamikeMemberOh yes Kootch, how would we ever get by if the churches had to pay billions in tax dollars? How could we ever get by with taxing them since (some, not all) even abuse donations for those in need… http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/eastsidenews/2003583275_church22m0.html

westseamikeMemberKeep in mind the newer building that Overlake is in sits on 27 acres of tax free land in Redmond (really cheap there I hear) and the building when built I believe costed $37,000,000 in 1997. All TAX FREE! That’s ONE church….ONE
March 16, 2012 at 2:55 pm #749780
JoBParticipantoddreality..
thanks for pointing that out..
i don’t think it’s ok for my money to be used to fund attacks on planned parenthood and accessible abortion…
i have a constitutional objection to using government money to fund any organization that tries to enforce their religious policy on the general population…
isn’t it wonderful how kootch just makes our day sometimes :)
