Does anyone know of a way to request a trash can to be installed on a street? Should I just contact the city, or the parks department? I’ve thought about investing the money & time to deploy one on my street (59th Ave SW) and locking it to a tree.

because there’s a lot of trash in your ‘hood? Detritus from beachgoers?

A lot of the time it is from folks coming/going from the beach. Everything from beer bottles to bags of Dick’s Drive-In are left on the curb or on the street. Everyone on the street does what we can, it’d just be nice to have a trash receptacle in plain view for everyone to use.

As I said in the OP, if I can’t find an easy way to get in touch with the city (in what department?), I’ll just deploy my own.

lazybeard, I’d start with SPU, since they handle (the contracting out of) residential/commercial waste. Secondarily, maybe SDOT?

lazybeard, I just did some poking around seattle.gov, and they have the Adopt-a-Street Program:

Looks like is a two year commitment, of about a one mile area, with four cleanups per year.

Sounds like you are more interested in a continuous, one block plan though.

Still, might be a place to start asking questions.

Sorry for your mess, Lazybeard — but what I really want to know: Is there a Dick’s in West Seattle? If I could satisfy my occasional jones for a special, fries, and chocolate shake, I’d promise to clean up after myself!

lol…no, they import it in. But…wouldn’t it all be cold by the time it got here to eat at the beach? A saving grace…Blue Moon Burgers is coming :D
