So, why, exactly, does it matter that our Secret Service decided to hire some call-girls in Columbia? It’s legal there, no? Were the girls abused? Were they ripped-off? Is it just that prostitution has such a stigma here? Do they sign some kind of an anti-prostitute clause before agreeing to take a bullet for our politicians? Are they bound to our laws regarding prostitution while abroad?

I have heard that all of this came about because one girl serviced two guys, but the guys only paid one fee…she got pissed, wanted more money..then took it to the US Embassy. I also heard that is was somewhere around 40 bucks…like these guys were too cheap to pay? all over 40 bucks…wow..

My thought was along the same lines…it’s legal there. If they hadn’t..um..stiffed…the one girl, nothing would have been heard about it..

I think the point was that they were drinking and they were letting these unknown women into their rooms. Who knows what kind of information the women might pick up, and to whom they might sell it?

It’s been my understanding that all information that is sensitive is locked up in a guarded room when these guys are setting up camp. I can see why there would be a concern if the info had the potential to be compromised, but it seems that was never the case… according to CBS Nightly News anyway.

Anyway, this seems like a whole lot of attention for something really pretty minor…or even nothing at all.

You’re right, Katherine. And there’s the problem of blackmail, too.

Secret Service agents are instructed to avoid any situations or behaviors that could lead to them being put in a compromised position with regard to their honor or their duty. If an enemy of the U.S. were to get some dirt on an agent, that could lead to the agent cooperating with the enemy (and risking the President’s life) in order to avoid having their secret exposed.

My daughter (US Army Reserve) was nearly denied a security clearance, simply because she had an inordinate amount of personal debt. The thinking is: If this soldier is hurting for money, she may betray her country to get it.

it’s my understanding that the SS is supposed to be on call 24/7. no boozing it up or partying – especially when POTUS is coming.

i say fire everyone involved and send a message that that behavior won’t be tolerated by this administration or any other.

same goes for the GSA guys.

even though alcohol can loosen lips, i’m not as concerned with secret service guys giving out state secrets; they’re extensively trained and disciplined individuals. probably the best security detail on earth.

and this might seem stuffy coming from me, but i’m more concerned that it reflects badly on our country, whether prostitution is legal in colombia or not.

redblack…I agree..while I’m not a prude, I do think that losing their job is the best answer. And definitely the GSA guys. Sometimes an example has to be made, period.

I remember, when I was young and working in WAsh. DC in the late 60’s , meeting some guys who were training for the FBI. They were very macho, full of themselves, liked to drink and party when they could. They just had a certain swaggering attitude about them. It was a very interesting time.

These were the big gun fellahs… the anti-assault team. Should the presidential motorcade be attacked, this is the team that is supposed to take down the bad guys. When the motorcade passes….look on the roof tops…..those are the fellahs. The are all qualified snipers. They have to be at the height of their physical performance. They may have to take shots into civilian crowds with a precision and rapid execution sequence that maybe 5% of the most accomplished snipers in the world couldn’t do. Skill sets almost unknown in the shooting world. Boozing it up with hookers isn’t conducive to their job performance. You can rest assured WorldCitizen that should they have to perform and there were collateral civilian casualties the South American press would have had a field day. The reason they are there..is to pre-plan the exact presidential route, down to the nano second. Those plans and schedules are in their custody before the president even arrives. It’s a horrid security breach. If these were PPSU agents for Putin, they would be shot.

are we really talking about some men who hired prostitutes when they were out of town?

    i am assuming two things…

that they didn’t do so while the president was at risk…

and that they would have been able to get their pants up quickly enough to grab their guns and go if they had been called.

personally i don’t approve this kind of behavior no matter who indulges in it…

but we are talking about it here as though it had national importance?

does one of the guys have a West Seattle bad boy connection that i missed?

Do these guys drive Hummers? Are their weapons cocked and loaded?

The Secret Service is not allowed to make mistakes.

Redblack, I agree with you too.

sorry to have to pee on the kumbaya moment…

kootch: this wasn’t the entire detail, you know. it was some of them, not all of them.

jo: it’s not the prostitutes so much as the boozing and impairment of ability. like i said, they are supposed to be at the ready 24/7, especially when they’re near the president. removal from the detail seems like an appropriate response.

as far as how it reflects on the country: would we let a congressman get away with that? a supreme court justice? how about the president?

we would not. the press would have a field day.

it’s a reflection of where we live, which seems like jesus-land sometimes. i imagine if the situation had involved, say, the belgian government, maybe it wouldn’t have played out this way.

then there’s the political angle. if obama doesn’t fire these guys, republicans are going to pummel him with it.

    same for the GSA guys.

It was the route and security team. JoB… the typical sniper, at least Marine Scout snipers have a resting heart rate of maybe 50. It’s part of the job requirement..Shots are time between heart rates…. elevated arterial pressure can move the strike of the bullet out of the KD impact point, All those scopes and weapons have been zeroed in at a base fitness level… after a night of whoring and boozing… that “shooting dope” is worthless. Ready 24/7 means physically ready. Some jobs are not for Joe Off daStreet. This is one of them. Would we let a congressman get away with it? Or, a president? I dunno, ask Wilber Mills or JFK or a host of others. Gary Condit comes to mind too… or John Edwards, or Gary Hart. Fire the GSA guys? Ain’t going to be enough .. imagine civil service… paid administrative leave? !!! FIred, jail time. AND recovered money for the trips to HI, the free parking spaces for spouses, falsified documents.. etc… goes to the culture of governments.. as they now see themselves, “civil servant royalty, entitled to their “cut” of the taxpayer. Nab the 61 WA DC transit empolyees also caught this week… taking unemployment and wage checks…. another federally supervised work force. Sad thing is.. when we point to WFA as in the UW Meidcare fraud case.. so many poo poo’d the notion… that WFA is a cultural value set in government programs and ” too small” to be of consequence. He gets pummeled on this one… all campaign season…. cause’ this is the result of a government too big to police itself. The 180,000, students, we funded for “green jobs”.. that resulted in 3000 jobs for over 480 million…jobs that don’t exist … of the 3000, less than 500 went to anything remotely related to alternative energy.. that kind of sloppy federal pork shoveling….. and what does he do in Ohio? Proposes more of the same. Just take the big black bus… Mr. Prez… 24 trips to Ohio since labor day? … it’s within commuting distance for your fund raisers..save us the expense. Use those Canadian made buses… at least the metric is mpg not tons of fuel per hour…. wheels up! At least pretend we have a fragile economy and the White House recognizes it too… at least Jimmy Carter turned down the AC and the Heaters in the WH during his fiscal meltdown. Increases taxes? No redblack,., been there done that… cuts and reform FIRST…..then we will see just how many tax dollars we really need. As the CEO of Verizon said…. just raise the math and science scores of secondary schools, and we will train the work force we need in partnership with the trade and community colleges… just get out of the way.

There’s a lot to cover Jan… the underlying pathology is the protection and insularity government employees have from consequences. They see it at the top of the culture.. and it filters down. Organizations mirror the culture set of the upper management levels. They see Obama taking a 4 million dollar junket… in hard economic times…. what’s a few hundred grand for them? It has everything to do with the thread… we can connect the dots. Instead of drilling down, conserving resources… he throws trillion in the air… by example are leaders judged. Remember Hope and CHANGE? Now we are being asked to buy More of Same. Maybe this is exactly the tension we need… for the good of the country… more taxes to get more of this? Won’t happen. More taxes, governmental reform and cuts, and government downsizing… might happen. Don’t think every government agency isn’t scrambling through their budgets right now. Check the polls.

Oh, bite me…you , as well as many , turn everything into blame Obama. Next you’ll be saying that Obama set up the SS guys to do this, that it’s his fault…others are, so why not you..

oh, the day is cloudy? Obama had a hand in that…after all, he’s the Messiah. Raining on your day? Obama again. Toilet clogged…must be because Obama is full of it…do you realize how you sound? And that eventually people figure out that you really have nothing to add to the equation with your rantings?

It never ends. Part of Obamacare was EVERY health record of every citizen was to be collected by HHS. Even those of us not in any public welfare or entitlement. My physicians’ group has spent thousands to comply. For the conservatives amongst us who reluctantly bend our knees… it was an outrage. Now, for my liberal friends this all seems fine. Until crap like this happens…

COLUMBIA — The S.C. Department of Health and Human Services announced this morning that an employee working for the Medicaid program inappropriately transferred some personal information of more than 228,000 beneficiaries to his personal email.

What makes this all the richer…while he seeks to enrich his little nest egg by abusing his custodial role by selling data… I wonder who he collected it for? Could it be?

According to the South Carolina State House website, as recently as 2011, Lykes was a member of the South Carolina Democratic Party’s Executive Committee, representing Lexington County.

South Carolina one of the states being sued by the DOJ for insisting on voter registrations. Hmmmmm … misconduct all over the place. I am going to lay a bet, that this was the start of voter registration fraud. Or, another civil servant with that sense of entitlement to taxpayer resources. If he sold them… he deserves prison time. Whatever it costs the state..

Although no health information was released, to address the possibility of identity theft and to give beneficiaries peace of mind, SCDHHS is making available a free year of identity protection services to every affected individual through a credit reporting service, which includes a free credit report Daily credit monitoring to detect any suspicious activity, and a $1 million identity theft insurance policy. Mr Lykes should be stripped of every asset he owns, house, cars, to reimburse the state for any and all expenses including the investigations.. what a creep.

Nothing to worry about though right? Don’t ya find it ironic that Roe v. Wade was found in a “right to privacy” interpretation of the constitution? Just a little bit? Too Bad Dick Clark passed on…there was another blockbuster reality show in the making.. “Government Employees Behaving Badly”… an endless cast of characters.
