amrakxParticipantI live at Alki Beach and would kindly ask that people observe the leash laws of the park area and the signs that specify that dogs are not allowed on the sandy part of the beach. It goes without saying that pet waste is your responsibility and not mine. The beach is for everyone’s enjoyment, young and old, believe it or not there are people who don’t care for dogs and shouldn’t be forced to, just because you choose not to obey leash laws. I will continue to complain written and orally to the animal shelter for enforcement.
Thank you kindly for sharing the park with people who don’t share your love of dogs or people who subscribe to the ordinances of the park.

JoBParticipantall dogs belong on leashes unless they are at a dog park that is off leash.
it’s safer for other people and safer for your dog.
and i like dogs a lot.

beachdrivegirlParticipantI also would hope that families that have young children around would kindly remind their children that a dog on a leash, especially one you do not know, is not a free petting zoo….THere have been so many times that I have had young children run towards me to pet my dog and I nearly have to scream at them to get them to stop.

swimcatMemberWell, this unfortunately happens all over the city. I almost fell over a large off-leash dog at Greenlake last week. The owner called it right as I was approaching so of course the dog bolted right across my path. I’m glad I have decent reflexes and avoided a tumble. The owner should be glad about that too, but since this person was so stupid anyways, I don’t think they even noticed what they did.

AnonymousInactiveI am a firm supporter of following the rules, and I hate when an off-leash dog runs up to our leashed dog and gets in his face, which screws up a lot of training!
That being said, I think this is in the wrong forum (this is a rant not a reader recommendation.)

lintleMemberi agree with all here. I think it’s a huge problem. people think it’s their right to allow their dogs to impose on others. unfortunately here around Lincoln park area we’re limited on options as to offleash areas. so peops try to sneak it in opting out of driving all the way over to westcrest which has its problems. there was even an attempt to make westcrest better but the local council chose to protect the creepiness going on up there. there are parks less frequinted by people like fauntleroy park and schmitz park that offleashers can go to, both featuring great terrain. watch out for our coyotes though.

beachdrivegirlParticipantThe dog patrol has been frequenting Schmitz park lately just as a heads up. He has been hearing “descriptions” of dogs off of leashes and then approaching even responsible owners whom have their dog on a leash.

ErikParticipantThe dog patrol practices racial profiling?

JoBParticipanti think i heard about some sort of effort to check licenses…
i wish they would make more effort with unleashed dogs…
i saw them talk to an owner of an unleashed dog on beach drive, check the license and then the owner walked away with the dog still off leash.
I was driving and with company so didn’t stop to comment or report them.. but i will next time.

JeraldParticipantI suppose this won’t be a popular idea, but I wish we could bring dogs onto the beach (leashed, of course). Perhaps the dogs-on-sand ban could be seasonal. It’s hard to find a place to let a dog wade or run on the sand, and they do enjoy it.

JoBParticipantJerald..
i agree. i end up driving north so that i can walk the dogs on a beach.
i noticed that a lot of people walk their dogs on the beach near the ferry at low tide … probably not legal there either…
i was across the sound yesterday showing off the puget sound area and noticed that dogs don’t seem to be prohibited at the state parks over there…
