A reminder that beginning 1/1/2009 you can recycle the following items for free in Washington: Computers (both desktop & laptop), computer Monitors, televisions.

    ~

The following are not included in the free plan: Mice, keyboards, printers, copiers, scanners, all other electrical devices including appliances and cell phones.

    See the brochure here:

As for where to take stuff, the only place I know for sure that will be part of this is Total Reclaim at 2200 6th Ave. S. (between Holgate and Lander.) Other sites will be listed after 1/1 at https://fortress.wa.gov/ecy/recycle/

Great info. Thanks for posting. But note, the clicking on more information leads to many many clicks only to find a database with the note that the free sites will not be listed until after 12/31.

The click-thru’s to get to the non-information are frustrating: a pdf with click for more that goes to an ecycle page, repeat info, click here for more, another page with really irritating animated icons and small lines for “click for more” (still haven’t gotten there). Oh, here we go, database: let’s see King County, type of recycle, not bricks, ah, electronics, I’m a consumer, click, database now? Yes! Note: no info on free recycle until 1/1/2009.

    few highlights:

    ~

“At this point, only two electronics processors, which grind up and separate the equipment, are in operation in the state: Total Reclaim in Seattle and IMS Electronics Recycling in Vancouver.”

    ~

“According to Friedrick, more than 200 collection sites have been organized and will be available in the new year.”

    ~

“Fifty percent to 60 percent of the sites will be at nonprofit agencies with retail stores, such as Goodwill, The Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul.”

    ~

“The program, called “E-cycle Washington,” is a result of a law passed by the state Legislature in 2006 but just now being implemented.”

    ~

“The Electronic Product Recycling Act set up a system through which households, schools, small businesses, small governments and charities can recycle certain electronic equipment for free.”

Maybe if we’re lucky, the TV that’s been sitting in our alley halfway down the block for the past year will finally get recycled now!

    Hi Everyone!

As stated in the information from other members above… only Computers(laptop or desktop), Televisions, & Monitors are covered under the new WMMFA Washington E-Cycle Program.

EWC Group, Inc. will take the rest that aren’t covered, free of charge including.. Mice, keyboards, printers, scanners, & cell phones, and other audio/ video equipment (call us for more details). There will be a small charge for copiers and appliances. But we as an environmentally responsible electronic recycling company want to make it easy for the general public to recycle their old and outdated e-waste.

EWC Group is located at 660 S. Othello St, Seattle Wa. 98108 (off E. Marginal Way S. & 8th Ave., near Georgetown). We’re open M-F 8am-5pm. Starting in Feb. We’ll be open on Sat 8-3pm as well.

For more info call us at 206-767-9950 or log onto http://www.ewcgroup.net.

    Thanks Everyone!
