JTE Instructor – Bilingual English/Spanish

Program Mission: The Seattle Goodwill (SGW) Job Training and Education (JTE) Program is a community based training and education program funded primarily by Seattle Goodwill. SGW programs provide retail training, job skills, reading, writing, English as a Second Language, math, and computer literacy to the residents of the communities we serve.
Position Description: Responsible for classroom instruction/training. Plan for and deliver adult education classes, administer examinations, collect and record data as it pertains to student progress. Attend staff meetings and work on special projects as assigned. Use of latest educational technology.
Job Duties:
* Provide approximately 20 hrs per week of direct instruction in some or all of the following:
o English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), vocational ESOL, citizenship
o Basic literacy – reading, writing, math, GED
o Computer Literacy – web, email, Word, Excel, keyboarding, Outlook
o Job Readiness – soft skills, customer service, job search, etc.
* Create lesson plans
* Maintain student records and data to track student progress and retention
* Maintain and express enthusiasm and commitment to helping students learn
* Support the Specialist in outreach and case management
* Present special lectures, seminars, and workshops as requested
* Participate in subject area instructor meetings, staff meetings, and other departmental projects
Education and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
* Minimum two years of teaching/training experience
* English/Spanish Bilingual
* Practice and success in simplifying and communicating complex ideas and tasks.
* Experience training/teaching adults who face barriers to economic opportunity and who may have little or no formal education
* Must be flexible and have the ability to work in an environment with very diverse groups of people.
* Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal, plus the ability to interact with a wide variety of people, including those with limited English.
* Must have exemplary internal/external customer service skills and listening skills.
* Able to work flexible hours, and independently.
* Strong organizational skills. Must be able to multi-task and deal with multiple, sometimes conflicting, deadlines.
* Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and have the ability to learn new software as appropriate and necessary to the job.
* Commitment to continued learning and professional development
* Experience working with immigrant/refugee communities preferred
* Experience developing curriculum preferred
* Experience integrating educational technology into the classroom preferred
* Experience with workforce development a plus

Able to safely lift/push/pull up to 10 lbs., grasp, handle, and manipulate items; perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms. Able to stand for long periods of time. Able to traverse a wide variety of physical environments without assistance including uneven surfaces and stairs. Ability to work in cramped areas/small spaces. Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing; including those who have limited English skills, large and small groups and individuals. Able to use standard office equipment without assistance. Able to maintain reliable attendance and focus on position.
Terms of Employment
