TRAFFIC, WEATHER, TRANSIT: Thursday, fourth day of 1st Ave. S. Bridge closure

5:59 AM: Good morning! It’s Thursday, March 12, 2026, fourth day of what has become a 5-day repair closure for the northbound 1st Avenue South Bridge. The South Park Bridge is the major detour for those coming from the south:

The West Seattle low bridge is an alternative too.

MORE TRAFFIC CAMS: All functioning traffic cams citywide are here (including links to live video for most); for a quick scan of West Seattle and vicinity-relevant cameras, see this WSB page..

WEATHER AND SUNRISE/SUNSET

The forecast says it’ll be rainy and breezy – high in the mid-40s. Sunrise is at 7:28 am; sunset at 7:10 pm. Eight days until spring!

TRANSIT TODAY

West Seattle Water TaxiRegular West Seattle service, winter schedule.

Washington State Ferries – Check WSF’s alert page for any changes to the 3-boat schedule.

Metro busesRegular weekday schedule and routes. (Note that buses usually traveling the NB 1st Avenue S. Bridge are using the South Park Bridge, but no missed stops, Metro told us.)

MORE SPOTLIGHT TRAFFIC CAMERAS

High Bridge – Here’s the main camera, followed by the Fauntleroy-end camera:

Delridge cameras: In addition to the one below (Delridge/Genesee), cameras are also at Delridge/Juneau, Delridge/Henderson, Delridge/Oregon, and video-only (so you have to go to the map), Delridge/Holden and Delridge/Thistle.

See a problem on the bridges/streets/paths/water? Please text or call our hotline (when you can do it safely, and after you’ve reported to authorities if they’re not already on scene) – 206-293-6302. Thank you!

at 8:15am Admiral hill is back nearly to the top and Delridge and nearby side streets are backed up. Frustrated at the lack of coverage on the blog on traffic compared to years past. Tuesday was a complete nightmare getting out of WS in the morning and while there was a bit more update through the morning it was slow to update compared to the situation on the road.

Hi, I apologize – but with a relative dearth of traffic cameras, we rely on what we hear from the community. Tuesday, the phone was jumping starting around 7 am, but not today; we certainly don’t want people to text or call while they’re driving but we appreciate reports once you get to where you’re going, or if you’re on a bus – 206-293-6302 – thank you! – TR

There is this thing called a radio,  I think they stayed putting them in cars a while ago.  Maybe you need to upgrade.  Wow really,  calling out the blog,  because you are having a bad traffic morning.  It is called,  planning ahead,  making changes to your routine. But blaming others for this is SO WRONG.

Thank you for the defense, Derp, but the problem is exactly that radio traffic reports don’t get granular – Admiral Way and Fauntleroy Way backed up to X on the approach to the West Seattle Bridge, that’s not in the scope of a regional radio station – they’ll tell you if there’s a crash on a bridge, but that’s about it. There’s a traffic camera at Admiral/California, for example, but it is not pointed in a direction that’ll show you a bridge-bound backup. When there’s an extra major stressor like the 1st Ave. S. Bridge northbound closure, the default would be, everything’s going to be worse. But again, community collaboration is vital, and we’re at 206-293-6302 24/7 – TR

I do understand, but people need to stop and think before they go off on you about something you do not control. You are an awesome asset for our community. But come on people, you have known about the bridge issue,  make changes to your commute.  Or work from home,  but change it up.

This isn’t so dissimilar from pre covid rush hour

Exactly.  I had flashbacks to pre-covid times at the top of Admiral today! PTSD!

Sorry, comment time is over.
