FOLLOWUP: First official ‘welcome back’ day for Hiawatha Community Center

(WSB photo by Dave Gershgorn, Saturday)

Though the “grand reopening” was celebrated Saturday (WSB coverage here), today is the first official day for Hiawatha Community Center (2700 California SW) public use. Tot Gym is just wrapping up, and the fitness room remains open until 2 pm. It’s on a limited schedule for two “Welcome Back” weeks until March 6, then expands a bit for the rest of spring, to include some sports – you can see that schedule here.

Anyone know what equipment is in the fitness room?

FITNESSCURIOUS: On Saturday I saw very little fitness equipment, mainly hand weights in different sizes. I didn’t ask what the plan is for that room, but don’t drop your gym membership until you find out.

I am curious to what the rooms will look like when they are fully furnished. I’m hoping they ad some colors on the walls of the teen room the whole room is white except two black chairs…  the work out room has a few weights and resistance bands

This was such a nice event!  I am glad I got to attend! The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a fun way to officially open the facility to the public. I remember they invited elected officials and children to cut the ribbon.  I see Mayor Wilson and City Councilmember Saka, along with their kids.  Can anyone let me know who those other adults are? The light-haired guy looks familiar – I think he may be on the Port Commission?  But who is that guy right between him and Mayor Wilson?  Is he an elected official?  I am just interested on knowing who my reps are!

That’s Jordan Crawley.  He isn’t an elected official.  He works at a daycare.  I have no idea why he would be involved with this ribbon cut thing.

I don’t know which hat he was wearing that morning, but Jordan Crawley is a board member for the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and chair of the 34th District Democrats. To the day-care point, his family owns Alki Beach Academy in North Delridge.

Sorry, comment time is over.
