West Seattle Crime Watch: 2 car prowls, with stolen items including ‘unmistakable’ skateboard

Thieves took Eron‘s skateboard in one of two car prowls for which we have reader reports tonight. Eron says it happened “in front of my house at 11th and Kenyon and my dog woke me up but not in time. … they took a lot of things; most of it was recovered by walking just around my block. The big score was a set of keys to nothing in this county and my custom longboard that I made from a vintage kids’ water ski. It is unmistakable. Yellow with red swirls and blue wheels. It is largely a sentimental loss and has very little ‘street’ value, as it is easily identified from any distance.”

Further south on 11th SW, in the 8800 block, Darcey reports: “Someone went thru my car last night. I left the door unlocked accidentally. Didn’t take anything- but we had nothing worth taking. Just threw stuff around, searching.”

P.S. Though local crime-prevention groups don’t meet again until September, you are now two weeks away from a prime chance to get together with your neighbors in support of safety and community – Night Out is Tuesday, August 5th, and you can sign up your block party by going here. (As always, we’ll be stopping by parties around West Seattle, and thanks to those who’ve already sent word of theirs without us even asking – editor@westseattleblog.com.)

Add another car prowl @ 15th & Kenyon. My boyfriend’s car was parked for a week while he was on a business trip. Noticed it had been rifled through when he got back, so it happened sometime between 7/12-7/20. Nothing worth taking, fortunately. Also, seems a different M.O. but there is/was a car on 15th near Holden with its windows and windshield shattered. I’m no detective, but the damage seemed like overkill for a car prowl, so perhaps more personally motivated. I believe that happened Friday night (but was still there as of this evening).

Our car was prowled as well last night on 16th and Cloverdale. Just rifled through, nothing taken, we accidentally left it unlocked. Seems someone was busy in the Highland Park hood last night!

Someone prowled our car on 14th and Kenyon last Wednesday. We, too, left the car unlocked and had nothing of value but a universal USB charger, which was taken.

Add another highland park car break-in: my girlfriend’s car was broken into some time in the wee hours of 7/18-19. We had an out of town guest who forgot to lock the rear passenger door when we exited the vehicle. Nothing appears to have been taken, but everything was scattered about the car indicating it had been rifled through. Whoever it was, they’re lucky I didn’t catch them in the act. Car was parked on 18th and Henderson.

and last week, also on 10th in Highland Park, our neighbor’s car was stolen for the second time in about a month (honda accord), we heard them start the car and pull away at 4am. Two other car doors all along our street were left open after being riffled through.

Lot more people living in the Westcrest park greenbelt again along with all the other surrounding ex-Nicklesville greenbelts. I thought the county was not going to allow any more encampments.
More migrant homeless arriving daily. go to ex-Nicklesville site to see for yourself.
Maybe one person was there all winter.
At least 20 people utilizing the area again.
Maybe not the thieves but seems eerily familiar

my car was broken into about a month ago. It was in the alley behind california & hill st. i locked my doors the night before but somehow they opened it and left it wide open after they were done. nothing was taken but literally everything in the car was thrown from wherever it was supposed to be to the floor.

Sorry, comment time is over.
