West Seattle motorcade sighting: It’s training

1:32 PM: Thanks to Mary for sending a photo and word that the westbound bridge was shut down for what looked like a motorcade headed this way:

Janet then reported a sighting near West Seattle Stadium. SPD Public Affairs says nothing’s on their radar – so for now it’s a mystery; still checking!

1:43 PM UPDATE: Det. Renée Witt in Public Affairs has since confirmed – it’s training. And our crew just caught up with them and has confirmed the same:

Motorcade (escort) training happens here every so often, and we’ve published mentions over the years – but you never know; once in a while, it just might turn out to be somebody like the president of Bulgaria.

I was in a bus that got held up. I thought I saw a car they were escorting. Someone on the bus said someone from the government was visiting Sanislo, but she couldn’t remember who.

No, it’s not Caroline Kennedy. We reported that impending visit earlier today and it’s next Monday. She wouldn’t get a motorcade :) Have since confirmed it IS training. Thanks! – TR

They just went by the Luna Park area.

    Is the bridge back open?

To our knowledge, yes, it was a brief (and unannounced) closure.

Thanks. We have someone on the freeway with nasty traffic & did not know if related. Thanks!

A motorcade just went through Wallingford on Stone Way… I’m guessing it was part of this same training exercise…?

HYN – we did hear unofficially it would likely be heading through other parts of the city, so I’d bet that’s it. – TR

Citizen journalism is so much fun. What did we do without WSB?

When they had the SW Avalon & 35th intersection shut down briefly I saw someone roll back into another car from the 7-11 parking lot. There wasn’t any damage at all, but the girl who got bumped was having a little fit. I got a kick out of it. She must have taken a million photos of her front bumper and the only thing dented was her license plate, very slightly.

Nothing on SPD Public Affairs’ radar? Would be nice if they would let us know that motorcade training was going on & that there may be temporary street/bridge closures around town so we can plan appts, etc accordingly. Small razz to SPD.

    yes… let’s complain more about SPD…

Sorry, comment time is over.
