High-school basketball: Senior Night at Chief Sealth

The Chief Sealth International High School Band, directed by Marcus Pimpleton, had a special occasion to play for last night – Senior Night for the basketball teams. Though both Sealth varsity teams were bested by visiting Bainbridge Island, it was still a festive night, including a celebration of the players who will graduate this year. We have photos of them all, right after the game recaps, ahead:

The summaries and photos are by WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand, who covered the games at Sealth:

Each team found itself having a single bad quarter that led to the visitors’ win:

The boys started the night by putting up only four points in the first quarter. That put them off their usual press game and let Bainbridge play a zone defense, which put them on autopilot and resulted in a 60-49 Bainbridge win. Sealth rallied with a unanswered eight-point run in the third, which finally brought their deficit down to single digits, but Bainbridge stuck to their basic game of long passes and consistent rebounding to close out the game. Sealth’s Pepe Hernandez, seen above going up for the slam, led his team with 21 points on the night, while Bainbridge’s Chris Bell led his team with 20 points.

For the girls, it was the third quarter that put them behind for good, as Bainbridge won 52-42.

Prior to that, their game was all about trading a one-point lead, The Seahawks’ success with the three-point shot in the first half did not carry through the rest of the game. Throughout the second half, Sealth shot from the outside with no success and found no one under the basket when they failed to connect. Sealth’s Victoria Elleby led her team with 16 points, while Bainbridge’s Hannah Depew led hers with 19.

Now, starting with the girls, this year’s Sealth seniors, each of whom got a moment to pose.
