 |   West Seattle traffic alerts

Not IN West Seattle, but close enough that you might need to know – so we’re passing along this advisory from the city:

The Seattle Department of Transportation will close the
Highway 99 off-ramp to First Avenue South for several nights next week
starting as early as Monday, depending on the weather forecast, since
the work requires a two-night window of fair weather. The ramp will be
closed from 9 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning. The
closure is needed to grind and pave the First Avenue South roadway at
the bottom of the ramp.

When the First Avenue South ramp is closed, traffic will be detoured
south to the Harbor Island Exit following South Spokane Street, turning
left at SW Klickitat Way, then eastbound to West Seattle High Rise
Bridge. Once across the West Seattle High Rise, drivers exit at First
Avenue South.

The contractor will also work at night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on First
Avenue South between South Atlantic Street and South Dearborn Street for
the next three to four weeks grinding (September 29 – October 2),
repairing (October 6 – 9), and paving (October 13 – 17) the roadway.
The paving work is weather dependent. At least one lane will be open
to traffic in each direction.

Other work will continue during the day on First Avenue South with
occasional lane closures during off-peak hours. The contractor will take
one day next week to correct a previously paved area in a 600-foot
section of a single lane between South Mead and South Findlay streets.

Construction crews will finish this 2008 paving project with final
restoration, clean-up and pavement markings in areas where paving is
complete. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of
October.
