Tonight’s the night….for Night Out

NIGHTOUTLOGO.jpgAll over West Seattle — and much of the rest of the country — you’ll see something you don’t usually see in most neighborhoods: Neighbors out in the street, sharing good times, good food, good ideas. It’s Night Out, the sleek new-ish name for what once upon a time was known as National Night Out Against Crime. Neighborhoods that met the deadline for registering their events with the Seattle Police Southwest Precinct here in WS will get to close off (non-arterial) streets for their block parties. SPD said they were unable to provide us with a list, but some neighborhoods told us about their locations; others were posted online. Click ahead for the latest list (updated as people send us more locations); if you’re involved in any Night Out event tonight, we invite you to send us a photo afterward for posting here at WSB (represent!).

Starting times vary — some 6, some 6:30 (or later). If you have a Night Out event planned, you can still e-mail us about it and we’ll add it here (or leave a comment). Congratulations to everybody joining together tonight to help build stronger West Seattle neighborhoods!

We’ve been invited to “crash” a few events in our neighborhood. (It pays to walk a cute little dog around the ‘hood)
    8800 block of 30th SW
    8600 block of 32nt SW

I have something cooking at home in the crock pot for both events!

I have also seen signs for one on Campbell Place just off of Lander as it goes down the hill from Admiral to Alki.

I think there’s one somewhere along Trenton on the east side of 16th Ave SW. I recall seeing signs for street closure somewhere around there during a bike ride the other day.

On the South Delridge end: We just drove past one already going. On the street (26th?) that borders the north side of the assisted living facility across from the Safeway on Roxbury. Can’t miss it. They’re BBQing and the PD and FD seem to be showing up. Also in the Schucks (?) parking lot on Roxbury and 16th.

Dang. Not one in my ‘hood this year. I should have organized it! The last 2 years have been a great way to meet the neighbors. Next year for sure. Have fun everyone!

Walnut is the street that runs on the east side of Hiawatha Park/West Seattle High School. At least, that’s the stretch we know best.

Thanks to all of our wonderful neighbors who coordinated and/or attended the Night Out celebration on Belvidere this evening. It was great to get out and meet the neighbors. Next year, we’ll have a winning strategy for the frozen t-shirt contest though!

Looking forward to more community activities. We love West Seattle!

I know where Walnut is! :)

And it’s why, when I was a kid and lived at 38th & Manning, my Aunt and Uncle lived 4 blocks away, rather than 3 blocks away, at 41st & Manning!

We had a pretty decent turn out on Angeline and Beach Drive with neighbors. Beach Drive Blog went private because we were getting asked if “non neighbors” could attend. Wanting more of a pre-block watch function and less of a “party”, we decided to take our info off the public internet and did flyers instead.

We did not have any police show up (or firemen, drats!) even though we registered. Hmmmmm.

We had a great turnout at Ercolini. I’ve been trying to send photos but e-mail seems to be getting rejected at the server….

Our multi-block party was a complete success! Our group included neighbors from 4000 34th Ave SW, 3800 34th Ave SW, Fauntleroy Way SW, and 4000 35th Ave SW – Whew! Lots of neighbors, food and fun! The police even showed up to say Hi! We are already planning next year!

Bill – if that happens again try our alternate address, westseattleblog [at] gmail [dot] com …

  • diane mccasland August 8, 2007 (11:12 pm)

We didn’t close our street at 52nd and charlestown but we had a successful party with 1/3 of the block showing up and enthusiasm to make it grow next year

Sorry, comment time is over.
