AlkidancerParticipantCan I just start by saying how annoying it is that school starts in less then a month and the Seattle School District has not updated any of the schools websites. Also there is VERY vague info in regards to transportation on the main Seattle Public School site and NO info on the schools sites themselves. So I find myself turning to all you wise folks for my questions tonight.
First off I live right by the Alki community center and school yet my son was assigned to our last choice of West Seattle Elem. will they be sending a bus to transport him? Where is this magical bus stop and any idea when abouts the bus comes in the morning and drops in the afternoon?
2nd. My older son will be at Madison this year. Do they send a bus for him? Does he have to ride metro? Do I pay for his pass or does the school provide this? I was able to get on the metro site and see that he can get a bus from here to there with only one transfer.
Thanks!

BonnieParticipantI think the school will send a bus for your child going to West Seattle Elem. because of the distance away. Totally stupid that they assigned you to that school. Why? I thought they were trying to go back to neighborhood schools. Switch him back next year with the neighborhood schools reasoning.
I don’t know anything about how the buses work for middle school.
The school district isn’t very helpful, I know. They should send you a notice in the mail soon regarding the bus information. I’m a big planner and it annoys me when people don’t understand why I want information like this way in advance. The school district is one of those places that is a last minute one.

GenHillOneParticipantThere were some good ideas here –

addParticipantMiddle school is the same as elementary with regard to eligibility for yellow bus transportation – Metro is for high schools. If you live more than 2 miles away (I think that’s correct), then transportation is provided and you will receive pick-up/drop-off time & location info from the district, I would assume pretty soon.
Did you try calling the transportation office directly? It might be hard to get through or to get details but at least you might get info on timeframe for when you should expect to receive your specific info.

GAnativeParticipantFor Madison – see page 21 on the Enrollment guide…you’re within the “Designated Walk Boundary” (we live in there too) so no transportation is provided.

For WS Elem – because you are more than 1 mile from the school there will be a school bus and you should receive an notice with the location and time of the bus stop.

Heinz57MomMemberPlease don’t waste your time calling transportation. The people that answer the phone are NOT the brightest bulbs in the box. Save yourself the stress.
My son was bussed for the last 2 years to a Special Needs preschool. We always had great drivers but everyone we’ve ever dealt with in the office was dumber than a door stump.
Each time I had to call because my child was an hour late getting home, or they didn’t send a bus to pick him up from school would just increase my frustration expotentially. When you have to stop and think before you can tell someone who asks what your name is there’s something wrong!
