    Hey all,

I live near Lincoln Park and visit on a regular basis. This past weekend I couldn’t help but notice a very visible # of homeless people sleeping in the park. I had never really noticed any up until this weekend, which makes wonder what changed? Was there a big crackdown somewhere else that pushed them to our park? Thoughts?

well, yes, sort of. Camp Long has long been a home camp for many homeless. This past month that element of Camp Long was ousted and repeated reviews have discouraged any recent encampments. I suspect some of the new Lincoln Park encampments are those former Camp Long itinerants. I’d notify both SPD and Parks and Rec. This is one element where the city actually does care and does work to resolve the issue. Also, contact the Parks Board, they care even more.

Also some of the parking areas underneath the Spokane Street Viaduct are being cleared for the upcoming construction …

P.S. I’d be interested in what you find out/are told when you call the city, and if you see any followup. One of our contributors documented some of the Camp Long activity several months ago, but that was not nearly as close to residential neighborhoods as Lincoln Park camping, in any part of the park, is.
