Chelan Café benefit tonight in memory of Jeremy Peck

One week after the candlelight memorial to remember Jeremy Peck, friends, family, and other community members were at the Chelan Café tonight for a potluck/karaoke/Jello shots fundraiser in his honor. WSB contributor Deanie Schwarz reports more than 75 people were there in the early going, with more continuing to arrive, and a spirit of camaraderie prevailing. Raffles were added to the night’s schedule, all to help pay for arrangements to lay Jeremy to rest. The questions about his disappearance and death are still weeks away from anything resembling answers; Deanie talked tonight with family spokesperson Cheryl Perry, who says she checked again with the King County Medical Examiner this week “and asked if they have anything they can tell us, because everybody wants to know. They don’t. They won’t even begin to have an answer for another seven weeks. … So many people, especially the younger people, want an answer. They want justice. But we can’t hurry the ME. They are going to do what they need to do. It’s due process and turn it over to the police, if there is something to turn over. We don’t know what the cause of death was.”

Cheryl says they are still interested in hearing from anyone with any information about what might have happened to Jeremy after he was reported to have last been seen early the morning of December 24th at the Admiral Pub; his body turned up on a Bainbridge beach three and a half weeks later. You can call their tipline, 206-478-4905. Meantime, they’re expecting to have more fundraisers, and will be gathering this week to make a plan. They’re thanking businesses who donated raffle items for this one, including Illusions Hair Design (WSB sponsor), Puerto Vallarta, Rocksport, and Royal Blue Tattoos, where tattoos paying tribute to “JP” were inked:

Friends and family are continuing to update this page on Facebook.

I’m sorry—-my husband died 3 yrs ago and it took every cent I had to lay him to rest and provide food for a memorial. Never crossed my mind to ask for donations

the disappearance and death – maybe by foul play, we don’t know yet – of a young man in the the prime of his life is a tragedy for his family and for the community. I would hope that everyone in West Seattle gather around this family and help them heal. Of course every death is a loss! There are some times when donations and outpourings of love from the community are appropriate, and this is one of those times.

I agree with “Visitor”!. You said what I couldn’t put into words. I am sorry that I was unable to attend this event to show my support.

Sorry, comment time is over.
