Another unveiling

Did a double-take driving through Morgan Junction this evening — after almost four months, Cal-Mor Circle is out from under the renovation-masking yellow and white mesh (described most famously by the Schooner Exact folks as reminiscent of a frothy mug of beer). Before photo left, after photo (tonight) right.

were people actually living in there under the yellow mesh during the renovation?

I saw the very, very, very, very, beginning of the “unvieling” a little after 8:00 this morning, just as my 22 bus to work in White Center was approaching the bus stop kitty corner from Cal-Mor.

They started unzipping/snapping/tying it from what would be about the SW corner of the building if it had corners. They did it from the inside, way up on the scaffolding, and were just kinda letting it drop.

I wished they’d started about ten minutes before, so I could have seen more of the process!

Is this a low-income housing building, an apartment building? etc.

Low-income apartments, run by the Seattle Housing Authority.

What did they do with the white brick that used to be there?
Is it all covered with a colored stucco-like product or was it removed?
I’m not sure the visual aspect of the renovation is an improvement, and I think the colors will ‘get old’ rather soon.
I’ll bet those living there are be glad to have the veil dropped.

I hope they dropped the tarp over the crazy old man in the parking lot screaming profanities at anyone who attempts to park in the two hour visitor spots.

    Looks better than it was…

As I’ve gotten off the bus, right in front of Cal-Mor, the last couple evenings, in the light, or lack thereof that dusk brings upon, on my way home from work, I haven’t quite been able to determine whether what is now the exterior of the bldg is the actual exterior, or if there’s still a lot of work to finish up on.
