Reporting on the gap between #1 and #2 on these makes it sounds more important than it is, the only one that matters is between #2 and #3, right?

Mayor McChees’s friends are still at Mcydees eating McDoubles. Still early.

Joe, only if it’s close. In this particular case, what I guess I should have written rather than just implied is – this signals that the late ballots broke more for Constantine for Hutchison, and could portend how things are shaping up for the general … TR

The PI and other sources are reporting the Mayor will be holding a press conference tomorrow at 10 am. Speculation is that he will concede.

  • WSB August 20, 2009 (8:10 pm)

May be a long shot to imagine pulling into second but if it were me, I’d wait to see how tomorrow’s vote count turns out, then concede on Monday.

Kinda like the last storm, he’s not to be seen until it’s passed.

WEll you can tell this is a catholic community, his Uncle is Father Mallahan who was the priest at Holy Rosary for years and he sent out letters to all the Holy Rosary parishoners asking them to vote for his nephew!! HUMMM

We in West Seattle all know that street level roads, transit and I-5 would never be an alternative to the viaduct or the tunnel! Mike McGinn needs to drive out of his northend neighborhood and try the drive from West Seattle and Burien between 745 and 845 and tell me ALL those commuters can simply drive on existing roads! Obviously he is clueless due to his lack of the true experience!

    Jill,
Father Mallahan has never been a priest at Holy Rosary. He has held mass numerous times when, first Fr. Sarkies and then Fr. Madigan went on sabaticals or trips. He is the priest at Holy Family in White Center.
But that isn’t really the point. Im just trying to figure out how you came up with the numbers that would equate your assertation that those letters amounted to 27.22% of the votes cast???
Is Holy Rosary parish that BIG!!!

I wonder if Nickelsville will become Mallahanville or McGinnville.

The electorate can be fickle. McMinn is a neophyte, he’ll be chewed up and spit out this time next year if he makes it. Mallahan is in for a rude awakening. Working in government is nothing like working in the private sector. The gears move very slowly. Whether he can adapt will be the test, and Seattle voters will be the ones tested. The business model calls for autocratic leaders, exactly what Nickels is criticized for. I can’t wait to hear the happy campers this time next year.

And Susan Hutchison? What a joke. Looks like all the Mars Hills people came out to vote.

As I cast my vote for mayor I was not voting for anyone – I was voting against Greg. He lost my vote when the monorail was hijacked and killed. He finished himself off when he gave the city a “B” for the response to “Snomageddon 2008”. When I found out that the light rail had no park and ride lots inside of the Seattle city limits once again I thought of Greg. I hope as he sits stuck in traffic gridlock on the West Seattle bridge that he has time to reflect about the choices that he made that have caused him to have to look for work in these troubled times.

“Father Mallahan has never been a priest at Holy Rosary. He has held mass numerous times when, first Fr. Sarkies and then Fr. Madigan went on sabaticals or trips.”

    This information is incorrect.

Father James Mallahan was pastor of Holy Rosary Parish from 1981-1987. Due to health issues he took a more limited role, and assisted at Holy Rosary while semi retired and undergoing cancer treatment.

I well recall his homily about the ham with the ends cut off!

Dear ex-westwood and Gina, you are both so wrong Father Mallahan was the Priest for many many years at Holy Rosary. Father Sarkies was his assistant while he was the Priest. I was a student at Holy Rosary when he was the acting Priest. He is now in a care facility in Bellingham and has been ill for the past 6 yrs. I have the written letter that was sent out asking all the HR Parish memebers to vote for his nephew.

  • Gina August 21, 2009 (8:23 am)

Jersey Jill: Click on the Holy Rosary website link. I have been a member of Holy Rosary Parish since 1961. I received the letter also. Father James Mallahan was pastor of Holy Rosary Parish from 1981-1987. Due to health issues he took a more limited role, and assisted at Holy Rosary while semi retired and undergoing cancer treatment.

I well recall his homily about the ham with the ends cut off!

Our pastors since 1961 have been Father Lanigan, Father Power, Father Van Gogh, Father Mallahan, Father Brant, Father Sarkies and Father Madigan.

The Pastor is the head of the parish. The Pastor is “The priest”. Those that assist are pastoral assistants.

Who cares where and when Joe Mallahan’s UNCLE served as a priest? If McGinn does end up running against Mallahan, this election is of extreme importance to West Seattleites! McGinn wants to undo the tunnel (after we finally have a decision after 2 decades of debate). If he is successful, our property values in West Seattle will plummet because we will be cut off from downtown for years (while the viaduct is torn down and replaced with surface streets), if not forever (since most studies agree that surface streets only will be inadequate for us). Never have the stakes been higher for W. Seattle! For us, by sheer process of elimination, Mallahan is the only choice. The fact that he’s smart, dedicated and liberal is a bonus.

  • Gina August 21, 2009 (8:54 am)

What I can’t believe is that at the present date, people are still dragging out the same tired complaints agains Catholic candidates that have been used since Rosellini ran for governor, and John Kennedy ran for president.

“The Catholics are all voting together! Oh, no”.

If the Catholics were actually all voting together, they would get together afterwards for coffee and doughnuts.

  • Mayes August 21, 2009 (9:45 am)

    Amen, Gina! :)

  • AceMotel August 21, 2009 (11:11 am)

LOL Patrick. Really! What difference does it make where and when Father James Mallahan served? I don’t remember anyone saying all the Catholics vote together. Anyway, Nickels is Catholic too.

Sorry, comment time is over.
