SUNDAY AFTERNOON: St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church presents a traditional “Blessing of the Animals” event for the whole community – pet owners are invited to bring their dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs, ferrets, hamsters, birds and more for a special blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. This is a custom celebrated around the world each autumn, on or near St. Francis’ feast day. The Humane Society’s “MaxMobile” mobile adoption and education center will be on site as well for on-the-spot pet adoptions.
