WEST SEATTLE WEATHER: Early morning snow!

2:27 AM: Thanks to the reader who just sent this video – snow falling “just north of Highland Park.” Rain up here as far as we can tell, but the forecast is for a mix. We’ll see what the next few hours bring!

2:34 AM: Now it’s snowing here in Upper Fauntleroy too.

    Snowing on Gatewood Hill too!

What a lovely surprise this morning!  It’s not much, and it won’t last long, but snow is a welcome sight.

Snowing hard in North Admiral.   It is just sticking to grass and gardens as of 6:20 a.m.

Lots of snow and still coming down in Highland Park!

We have a good ~1 inch blanket of snow on the ground, and it’s still falling (Highpoint). what a lovely surprise to wake up to

Snowing big old chunks in South Delridge this morning… doesn’t look like it’s sticking to pavement though. So much for my plans to prep the garden beds today! :p

Same, I was planning to get a few recent purchases in the ground today, and hit the Pierce Conservation District native plant sale in Puyallup… Roads look fine for the latter, at least.

We have a healthy dusting in North Shorewood:

  • WSMom March 13, 2026 (7:47 am)

@WSB, have you heard if school is “on” today? No one at the district or schools (Madison or WSHS) is picking up the phones.

    • WSB March 13, 2026 (8:01 am)

      No closure reports so far.

      • Jay March 13, 2026 (9:06 am)

WSHS was already planned closed today for conferences.  Another reminder was sent out this morn. “ This spring all WSHS students will be participating in Student Led Conferences. This is a required component of your student’s grade for advisory for semester 2.  There will be no classroom instruction on Friday, 3/13/26.”

Thanks. But the campus isn’t closed, the conferences are held there? Unfortunate consequence of extreme siloization of information these days, word of things like that doesn’t get out widely so I appreciate the FYIs.

The “Student-led conferences” are all remote I believe. My West Seattle High School Senior had his earlier this week. And on another note, Highline School District (where my other child attends High School) was already off today ~ also for conferences.

          • WSB March 13, 2026 (12:35 pm)

Thanks. I checked Highline Public Schools’ home page looking for any weather-related advisories but would have had to go to district calendar to find something like that. Note to self, next time it snows, check school calendars!

School is very much open.  Just dropped our kid off.

    • hiawathaneighbor March 13, 2026 (8:39 am)

Why wouldn’t schools be open today? Nothing on the roads and it is going to be 45 degrees in a few hours.

      • WSB March 13, 2026 (8:48 am)

SPS has on occasion closed/delayed for less, so it was a valid question.

  • WINTY March 13, 2026 (8:53 am)

Two years ago, every neighboring school district was on a two hour delay due to ice particularly and snow.   It was to warm up by 8:30 A.M, that day but PS stayed open and refused to have a 2 hour delay. I(dad and teacher) fell trying to get to my car.  Two of my students who were walkers in the CD said they and others also fell.  Today it is not as bad, but for a district with this many hills, even one wreck of someone or people falling makes it seem like 2 hour delays should be an option.  Especially, since we only see snow 1 or 2 times per year in the city, we should be extra cautious.

Update from Highland Park…….and a little bird trying really hard to stay warm!

    • Brooke March 13, 2026 (10:35 am)

      Awesome picture!

  • NorthAdmiral March 13, 2026 (9:50 am)

Continuous snow going on here in North Admiral. National weather service expects snow or a mix for the next few days.

  • West Marge March 13, 2026 (1:39 pm)

    I don’t trust Seattle snow

  • flipjack March 13, 2026 (1:40 pm)

    nothin in palm springs

    • WSB March 13, 2026 (1:59 pm)

You have an “excessive heat” warning there, in fact. 91 degrees!

Sorry, comment time is over.
