FOLLOWUP: Contractor chosen for Morgan Junction EV-charging lot

(WSB photo, this morning)

While the park expansion less than two blocks away languishes, another city project in Morgan Junction appears to be approaching construction. Checking on the Morgan Junction electric-vehicle-charging lot site between Fauntleroy and Morgan, north of 42nd SW, we discovered the winning bidder’s contract was finalized just this past Monday. Zenisco Inc. beat out eight other bidders, according to this page on the city’s bidding website, which says the contract amount is $823,250. Zenisco’s project gallery is heavy on telecom work. This is a Seattle City Light project, as we’ve been reporting since 2022, and we have a message out to SCL to ask how soon they expect construction to begin. Back in April, SCL had projected it would start this month and be ready in spring, just a few months after an estimate that it would be finished this fall.

Nearly a million dollars for eight parking spots, lovely. Kind of a bummer the City didn’t choose to distribute chargers along California, closer to where people might actually want to go, rather than shoving EV drivers into a hidden lot without access off the main arterial.

From the old WSB article: “construction [on the lot] could begin as soon as the 4th quarter of 2022”. Glad they didn’t rush this project!

They do have some EV chargers along California with dedicated green stripes on the sidewalk. Unfortunately cars that aren’t charging park in them constantly. As an EV owner I can say that chargers along California is not a good option. For one, no one wants to sit in their car along a noisy street while they charge. The chargers might not be convenient to where you need to shop/eat. And the experience of a dedicated charging lot is significantly more comfortable. I’m happy they’re installing this fast charging lot. We need it.

It’s a block away from California and ON Fauntleroy, which is a main arterial.

How theft proof will all the wiring be?

$823,250 out of our pockets when the city and county are in debt to benefit rich people that can afford $100,000 cars

Cameras will do nothing to prevent theives from stealing the wire. They’ll smile and wave at the cameras as they taking it. 24×7 security guards are needed. This will be very expensive either way.

With more electric vehicles being driven on our roads, these new charging stations will be most welcome.

government  is so incompetent. Luckily there is Elon and Teslas vast charging network.

Sorry, comment time is over.
