WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen scooter

If you happen onto an abandoned electric scooter, it might belong to Joel, who emailed to report: “I today had my Nami Burn-E 2 Max electric scooter stolen from the South side bike rack of the Admiral Junction Safeway across from Hiawatha park at approximately 12:40 PM. It is black and weighs about 100 lbs. There is a security code for starting it.”

Hey, I may have seen the person who stole your scooter riding it down California Ave on the sidewalk. He passed me as I was crossing Hanford St, headed south, on the east side of California Ave. He was travelling pretty fast but abruptly turned around in front of Springline Apartments and then rode back north along California Ave. I’m not sure where he went after that. This was at around 12:50 PM. There were two other women chatting on the sidewalk outside of Dominos who commented on how weird it was that the guy doubled back so quickly. Given the timing and the weird behavior, I figured it was worth mentioning. Can’t say I got a good enough look to give a great description. I hope you’re able to recover your scooter!

If the scooter needed a security code to start it, doubt that guy spotted on California Ave was the thief, unless he cracked the code right there on the spot.  More than likely someone picked it up and placed it in their vehicle.

Thanks for the tip, I looked around Springline. The scooter is pretty big and raises you up about a foot. The security code should prevent anyone from having power assuming there isn’t a way around that. Below is a picture of what it looks like off a site.

Since sidewalk riding was mentioned above, I would like to take this opportunity to remind or inform that scooter riding on the sidewalk is illegal. I know people do it and it’s not enforced but it is illegal and dangerous to pedestrians. I can understand why people don’t want to ride in the street but that’s where they belong from day 1. If you don’t want to ride in the street, don’t ride a scooter. Thanks.
