UPDATE: Helicopter search for prowlers, apparently a false alarm

9:10 PM: Guardian One is up west of The Junction looking for prowlers in the Genesee area.

9:25 PM: No prowlers found, and Diego says via comments that it apparently was a false alarm. So does Judy via Twitter:

Thanks for the texts/calls – you never know.

a neighbor spotted someone cleaning their own gutters in the dark. It looked like it was a prowler, they called 911. It was the homeowner. All is ok

Thanks, Diego, I was just going to update that they found no sign of a prowler and moved on. Nonetheless, lots of calls and texts (thank you!) so we had to post something.

Thanks for the update- the helicopter worried me!

ok…does anyone not wonder who in the world cleans their gutters by headlamp after dark?

Jan – actually – makes perfect sense to me. We have rain on the way and I was just out (before this erupted) checking the storm drains in the street to make sure they were relatively clear. If you are just tuning into the forecast – which suggests maybe another inch and a half in the next two days – it’s now or never.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh.

The idea of the gutter cleaner out with a head lamp, probably wondering what the helicopter was doing, brought a chuckle and a nice ending to another helicopter search!

Why don’t they use the helicopter to clean gutters? If they fly low enough, they can blow the leaves off of everyones roof. That way, I won’t be wondering how much more the fancy helicopter cost vs. a patrol car.

Then why are they still flying over my neighborhood?

  • Mike August 28, 2015 (5:55 am)

WSB, you bring up a good point. We should all look at the storm drains and try to make sure they’re cleared of leaves/branches/garbage.

Seems like overkill to send a helicopter out over a suspected prowler. Not really helicopter worthy and waste of resources.

This was one of those “happened to be in the area” things – it wasn’t specifically dispatched/requested. As we’ve written in previous instances, G-1 monitors local police frequencies when up and if it happens to be free and nearby, offers to check out something like this.

Sorry, comment time is over.
