SDOT‘s out with another one of those big-event traffic-alert roundups – including the SW Webster shutdown (west of Delridge) on Saturday afternoon for Picnic at the (Southwest) Precinct – read on to see what’s happening where this weekend around the city:

Here’s the full text of SDOT’s announcement:

Fall may not be far off, but there’s no shortage of summer celebrations to attend this coming Saturday and Sunday, August 21 – 22. A few of the events happening over the weekend include: Hempfest takes over Myrtle Edwards Park; the Rainier Heritage Parade and Summer Streets Celebration move out onto Rainier Avenue on Saturday; the world’s largest jade Buddha goes on display in Seattle; and the Seattle Seahawks play their second pre-season game at Qwest Field on Saturday.

The Seattle Department of Transportation warns motorists to anticipate traffic congestion accompanying the events and to plan accordingly. Drivers are encouraged to consider taking alternate modes of transportation – Metro Transit, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible. Please see the following schedule of events for areas where traffic will be impacted.

Saturday, August 21

Seattle Hempfest: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Myrtle Edwards Park
40,000 expected
Motorists should plan on congestion near the park.
Bicycle traffic will be diverted to the west path through the park (normally bike traffic is on the east path). It’s impacted by vehicles and equipment, but remains open to bicycles through Friday night and re-opens Monday morning. Hempfest tear-down lasts through Wednesday, so it will be impacted through next week

Magnolia Village Car Show: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Magnolia Village
850 expected
Streets closed 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.: W McGraw Street between 32nd and 34th Avenue W, and 33rd Avenue W between W Lynn and W Wheeler Street.

Central Area Community Festival: 12 noon – 8 p.m.
Garfield Community Playfield (2223 E Cherry Street)
480 attending
No street closures; plan on congestion on surrounding streets.

Summer Streets and Rainier Heritage Parade: Parade 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.; Summer Streets until 3 p.m.
2,500 expected
Parade staging 9 – 11 a.m.: 42nd Avenue S between Rainier Avenue S and S Ferdinand Street : Parade starts at 42nd and Rainier; heads north on Rainier to S Alaska Street; disperses on S. Alaska St. east of Rainier.
Summer Streets follows parade with closure of Rainier between S Orcas and S Alaska streets.

Seattle Police SW Precinct Picnic: 1 – 4 p.m.
Precinct (2300 SW Webster)

Streets closed 9: a.m. – 6 p.m.: SW Webster between 24th Avenue SW and Delridge Way SW

Jade Buddha for Universal Peace Exhibition: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Co Lam Temple (3503 S. Graham St)
World’s largest Jade Buddha; at; exhibition from August 21 – 29; Grand Opening Ceremony is Saturday, 5,000 expected
Streets closed from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.: S Graham Street between Martin Luther King Jr Way S and 33rd Avenue S.

Seattle Seahawks vs Green Bay Packers pre-season game : 7 -10 p.m.
Qwest Field
55,000 attending
Expect heavy traffic throughout the SODO area and on I-5, I-90 and SR 99 approaching exits for stadium.

Sunday, August 22
