West Seattle 4th of July evening scenes, High Point to Alki

We happened onto that playground-side performance during a quick visit to the High Point Diversity Festival earlier this evening. The fun and food stretched across five hours at Commons Park, which officially opened one year ago today. Right after that, around 6 pm, we drove along Harbor Ave to see what the no-fireworks-on-Elliott-Bay crowd looked like this year. As this video from our passenger-held Flip shows, not too different from years gone by (except that, unlike last year, the road was open to all) – still plenty of RVs and tents – hope there aren’t too many who missed the no-fireworks news (and you CAN see parts of the Lake Union fireworks from there):

If you see this before 10 pm, note that KING5 is broadcasting the Lake Union fireworks live as usual, on the air and online at king5.com.

Love that youtube video of all the tents (huh?) and RVs down at Alki! Guess they didn’t hear your bullhorn! Can you see the Lake Union show from there though?

We always watched from the bathhouse vicinity at Alki and you could see a bit of the Lake Union fireworks, so I’m hoping for all those folks that they have an angle where more is visible – we’ve never watched from the Seacrest/Don Armeni vicinity.

You should be down there filming now-they’re probably rioting because there was no show! ha!

The show over on the lake was well seen from North Admiral. I was shocked! It was not as close up as years past, but it was beautiful. Now that the professionals are done for the night there are A LOT of “personal” fireworks shows going off around here. It would be nice if the police could come round once in a while.

Glad to hear that. So maybe all the folks on the shore got a nice show after all. Something we’ll keep in mind for next year if nobody picks up the Elliott Bay show … TR

Those dancers are from the Samoan congregation: High Point Light House Assembly. They call themselves the HP Warriors and they not only worship here in the community, but also serve here too. Every other Saturday, the youth gather at 7 AM and do a neighborhood clean-up, picking up litter throughout High Point. I have never met youth with such big hearts and willing hands as they have to serve. Thank you, Andrew from HPNA
