West Seattle traffic alert: Seaview sinkhole at 48th and Graham

Thanks to Nick for e-mailing to share the news that this sinkhole has opened in the middle of the Seaview straightaway section of 48th SW, at Graham (map). As you can see, it’s been blocked off, but this is right smack in the middle of a 2-lane, 2-way arterial, so best to be forewarned to slow down if you use that road.

They (utilities?) were doing a lot of digging followed by repaving in the area as recently as a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what that was about, but could be the culprit.

Doubt it was the utilities work at Graham since this spot is a block north at Raymond and 48th.

That’s 1/2 the size of the one in White Center. What happened to the Mayor’s goal of no potholes, seems to be more than ever.

    Fill it with the mayor.

The city will eventually be out and break out the entire cement panel (half lane wide, 20-30 ft long), fix the underlying problem (a leak of some sort) fill the hole, and then repour the entire panel. It amazed me to see just how much work went into repairing one of these. It isn’t just as simple as throwing some asphalt in there.

Sorry, comment time is over.
