Reader report: Supermarket employees’ unusual task

storesituation.jpg

That photo is courtesy Bill Schrier, who witnessed a startling sight in Metropolitan Market tonight – he describes it as a man yelling and throwing merchandise – Bill says what you see in his photo are store employees who managed to get the man under control till help arrived. No more details at this point about what happened or whether everyone is OK; we will check with police tomorrow.

The WSB has spies everywhere! :-) By the way, those are lovely pajamas you’re wearing, Rhonda. Are you gonna finish that muffin?

I know one of the people involved.

The fight started when a Loss Prevention Officer tried to detain a young man who stole merchandise. The young man became combative and kept reaching for something in his pocket.

The fight to secure the theif lasted 15 minutes, involving store employees and helpful costumers.

I know Met Market is high end, but they have a costume department now, too? Huzzah!

ohh, you just wait till T.J’s raises the price of Three Buck Chuck, then there will be some fightin’ in the isles. Throwdown!

That’s great that they got him, these kind of situations can be quite scary, especially for innocent customers.

I work @ West Seattle Thriftway and we also have been having quite a problem with shoplifters recently. I think an unsavory group has moved into town and has been hitting as many places as possible – we haven’t had much of a problem for quite a while.

That’s wild, I assumed this was the same scene I saw at West Seattle Thriftway, until I read closer. I came into the WS Thriftway Monday morning to find a man sitting on the floor with many very adrenaline charged employees hovering around him. He had also been ‘detained’ for shoplifting. Michelle, tell your crew that they did an awesome job!

    “Taz ’em bro”

My brother worked at a bag boy at the West Seattle Thriftway store in the ’80s when we were in High School. One day during his break, I was standing on California Ave talking to him. This young guy when running past us with the store manager in pursuit (shoplifter). I don’t know what came over me, but I threw the ginormous Big Gulp I was carrying (probably full of Tab-what a beautiful drink!) and for the only time in my LIFE actually hit my target. The guy was so shocked he slowed down and was tackled by the workers. He did have some choice words for me as you might imagine and that was the beginning and end of my crime-fighting career.

Did they buy you some more Tab?

  • Indaknow April 10, 2008 (8:54 am)

    Nope :(

    Aaaah, TAB …

Sorry, comment time is over.
