Spectacle in the sky

onebolt.jpg

Seconds away from shutting down the computer, we checked e-mail one last time, and good thing we did: a note had just come in from Joe (thank you!!!!) with these spectacular photos of the lightning we’ve seen the past few hours. Joe’s full gallery of pix taken from what he described as “the west tip of Alki, facing southwest” can be found here.

Isn’t it ironic? I spent the past five days in the midwest and one event I was hoping for was a loud and bright lightning storm reminiscent of my childhood. How nice to awake in my own bed in WS to the bright flashes and the loud rumbles. Thanks Joe! I was too tired to get out of bed for a look.

    Thanks for the compliments everyone!

You can see the camera/exposure info on the gallery, it’s a Canon 20D with a 17-40L lens, tripod and remote release cable. Nothing too fancy, just had to be patient and pray they turned out.

Excellent pictures. My husband was very impressed by them. Of course, he hardly slept last night because he was so entranced by the storm. He is a weather nut.

I’ve tried unsuccessfully to shoot lightening on several occasions and now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t get out of bed for this storm!

Joe, your pictures are stunning and inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing!

    Joe:
Brian Callanan, a reporter at our station and a resident of West Seattle, sent this blog to me. I do the weather on Q13 FOX News This Morning and I’m going to show one of your lightning photos on Monday morning’s show. I’m not sure exactly what time. Probably after 7:30 a.m. Congratulations on these excellent shots! Feel free to send me a weather photo any time at mj@q13fox.com
