SpeakLoud … Good to hear y’all are getting to a more comfortable place with WSHS.

An idea to consider, something my father did for me back in the late 70s that he had to fight for but was within our rights to do: I only went to high school for the mandatory credits I needed to graduate; all of my other school hours were spent at a nearby college getting through some of the basic college requirements so … when I graduated from high school I also had college credits in algebra, geometry, English, Spanish, medieval history, and theater. These latter two classes were about him letting me explore interests I might want to pursue when I got to college–I ended up not pursuing them, but the level of instruction definitely got me prepared for high-level paper writing, testing, expectations, and analysis and critical thinking.

My son is a senior at WSHS. Extremely negative experience all the way, but for completely opposite reasons as yours–a lot of learning issues. Couldn’t write a sentence to save his life, but I did get him reading at college levels by putting him in a private school for 5 years. Hooray! He is intelligent, but just not in the “standardized” way–e.g., for some bizarre reason he became the Seattle expert on Wikileaks last year; just as bizarrely, his history teacher told him that topic didn’t relate to a paper he had to write on “anything about propoganda.” Go freakin’ figure.

Anyhow … keep fighting the good fight, and certainly pick your battles so you can relax sometimes and not exhaust yourself with the ambiguity. :->

(As a side comment: I’m sooo irritated that WSHS has just left the graffiti all over the place from the class of 2010. Why can’t they clean up that crud? My understanding is that they took senior funds to penalize the class. Wonder what they spent them on? Just kevetching on that … .)

    Peace …

HSG – I’m alluding to early enlistment. Starts in November. I know this and I don’t have a kid.

Additionally there are a bunch of understudies who are as yet battling in those classes that you need to request significantly more from. Its the weight of having a shrewd youngster in government funded school – it requires some investment. In the event that you have an inclination that you are “squandering” 6 hours of educational time, converse with the guardians who are burning through cash on coaches and bunches of time each day helping their children keep afloat. It’s government funded school – while they can’t instruct to the most minimized shared variable, they additionally can’t heave the ball over the leaders of a huge level of understudies who are similarly as qualified for a “reasonable” training as the “savvy kids”.

No doubt. Suck it up. Everything takes work. Not to say that you aren’t placing in the work, however since there is by all accounts no good reason for these posts other than whining about your children instruction. You do understand that your PTA is the spot to complete this, correct? What do you need from the fine individuals on these discussions but to whine about how talented your kids are.

Here are a few assets that a portion of my kindred understudies and I used to enhance my training through state funded school:

    1) http://www.tavvy.com

    2) Kumon. Helped me keep afloat and after that some in math classes.

    3) http://www.tutor.com/schools/programs/propelled arrangement – You can get AP coaches to help your child where they may not be offered in your genuine school. They give you all that you have to step through the exams and get school credit/try out of things so you can get into Running Start significantly quicker! Have I stopped Running Start enough?
