The biggest part of this rant goes to my dog for being the Houdini Hound from H*ll, and me for not being smart enough to stay one step ahead of him.

But a smaller rant to people who have decks that are only partially enclosed – just enough to make it hard for a human to get in/under, and thus cozy and perfect for raccoons, but not completely blocked to avoid becoming a raccoon motel 6.

My dog has twice now escaped from my fenced yard only to end up cornering raccoons under differing neighbors decks – fortunatly he made it out both times unharmed, but with no assitance from me because I couldn’t get at him.

If you’re planning on building or improving your deck, please consider steps to ensure it doesn’t become a raccoon habitat.

i can relate. i too have houdini dogs:(

unfortunately, no matter how hard i try my little houdini manages to find a way under my deck at least once a year :(

even if you don’t have a houdini dog or live near one..

it’s always better not to invite racoons to set up housekeeping in your yard.

they are pesky neighbors and not so easy to evict once they set up housekeeping

Mine caught a big ole male coon last week … those kindly neighbors who I have beseeched soooo many times not to feed them keeps attracting them. This time I just left the body over the fence for them to deal with. Luckily this time the injuries to him were a few superficial scratches. Coons will kill small/medium dogs though.

LOL, that’s awesome Kootchman. Not a fan of raccoons!
