I’m looking for long lasting finish for cedar / hogwire fence that i just finished sanding. Any recommendations? i don’t want to have to ever sand it again. LEaning towards Penofin

We had excellent results with Duckback. 2 coats, redwood fence, beautiful finish and little/no mildew.

Just used this on two cedar picnic tables and it looks awesome! Alki lumber gave me the low down on penofin and why to use it in this climate and I don’t think I will ever use something else. I often wonder why people with new fences don’t use this product, it is so good and really looks great. I say yes!

Used Penofin on the cedar fence 8 years ago and it’s still good!

Dang. I just today bought TWP 1500 for a cedar fence. Lotta Internet research, cuz the Alki guy answering my Qs wasn’t the expert on it (his words). Think I should return it to Dunn’s? Penofin reviews noted a lot of poor to no penetration and peeling at about a year. What label Penofin did y’all use? … Shoulda asked here first :-(

I was going to use the red labeled Penofin or the Marine variation as i’m OK with no color added. those seem to be more robust. From my reading in forums on the internet, there seem to be mixed reviews but often folks are citing faulty application as the primary reason for early product failure. it’s been so dry and i just finished sanding so i figured its the perfect time.

Just to be clear, penofin is an oil, not a laquer finish, so I would be very very surprised if it ever “peeled”. It is basically absorbed into the wood this making it stronger against the elements. It is perfect for our weather. And yes, this amazing dry summer is when you should do it. I did notice that areas where I applied “too much” remained sticky for a while. Alki lumber advice was to follow my first application with a dry cloth to wipe it clean.

I am very happy with the Sunfrog product Eco Fin -I used it on my new cedar and pine fence two years ago and it still looks brand new.

I choose it due to it’s environmental aspect and it has performed above my expectations.

B-squared, If you have decided to go with Penofin, and haven’t bought any yet, give Dunn Lumber a call.

KOMO 4 just aired a Dunn Lumber commercial, and I’m almost certain I heard them say Penofin is on sale. (I was distracted, surfing WSB) :-)

Thanks Mike, good idea but i just bought a gallon at True Value and used that 60% off coupon that was in the paper this week. helped a lot as it’s not cheap stuff!

I thought about TV and the Anniversary Sale afterward.

They’re even better, because they are even more local (to us).

FWIW, in case you need more and are unable to score another TV coupon, I’ve seen the Dunn commercial again, and Penofin is indeed on sale, but they don’t mention a price, or percentage discount.
