jlhallMemberLicense plate #: 762-UNQ. It’s maroon, has a little paint damage; old, beat-up wheels, but the body is (hopefully not WAS) pretty straight. Danged if it didn’t get me to and from work, the store and stuff! I live on 48th Ave. SW near Lowman Beach Park. I noticed it gone when I woke up this morning; and another later model Camry had been ditched across the street with the radio half ripped out, some torn-out license plates on the floor, out of gas. Mine had a near full tank. If you see it, call the police, please! And give me a call, too, if you would. I’m Jennifer, and my number is: 206-941-2225. I’m going to e-mail a photo of the dumped car (Its owners have picked it up.) to the wonderful West Seattle Blog editors. My car looks a bit like it, but older. Thanks!

sacatoshParticipantCheck 20th St SW between Trenton and Henderson/Barton. This block seems to be a “staging area” for car thieves. Most commonly there are Accords parked there, but the occasional Camry as well. There is no way on earth that every house on the block owns a 20-year old Accord or Camry.

smap-dMemberOver the weekend, there was a bunch of miscellaneous stuff dumped at the corner of 29th/Brandon – looked like it may have been the contents of a stolen car. (Couple pairs of Crocs, car radio, etc.) Someone bagged it up and left it by the side of the road, but today’s trash day so it may get picked up.

jlhallMemberThanks for the tips! My husband just drove over to 20th and Henderson — Barton to look around. He didn’t see any Camrys, but we’ll try looking there again.

LeroniusmonkfishMemberA bit of a stretch but try looking along Palm Ave SW…when I lived there I came home around 1am and there was an acura and vw facing each other with their front hoods open. Some kids (4) were doing something and as I walked by after parking my car I said “How’s it going?”. One of them said “None of your f*cking business”…NOT the right answer! I went inside and called 911 while looking down from the second story bedroom window. The SPD came in from both directions N/S within about 15 minutes and caught them. One of the two cars was stolen…two males and their minor girlfriends. Another time I came home in the late evening there was an Acura sitting in front of my house and didn’t think much of it…came out the next morning and it was sitting on blocks. It’s a nice neighborhood but it’s quiet and quick access onto California Ave Northbound and then onto Harbor AVE…

Seattle SEOMemberHopefully you didn’t have anything of major value in there. What’s the point of stealing these old cars anyway? What are they trying to get, the radio, spare parts or something?

CMPParticipant@7: I think people steal Camry’s and the like for joy rides. My brother drove a ’91 Camry awhile back and lived on Capital Hill. The poor car was stolen twice and broken into multiple times. I think the stock radio was ripped out but our dad replaced it with one found at the dump. Otherwise, the police recovered the car in the vicinity with miscellaneous junk left in it from whoever stole it. I hope this Camry turns up in the neighborhood (you never know though since it had a full tank of gas) and I’ll keep my eye out for it. I have a soft spot for older model Camrys and Civics and hate to hear about them being stolen.
