Dave-AndersonMemberDoes anyone know where the laundromat that was at the Junction moved to?

JiggersMemberThey are done. The owner wasn’t making money and had his rent raised. A laundromat business is hard to operate in todays economy. You don’t make squat with quarters. Plus, there’s a ton of maintenance with those machines and it costs money to keep them fixed and running right. A nail salon is going in there from what I heard. The nearest laundromat is across from the Admiral theater.

StarskyectMemberthe laundromat will more than likely be moved to another area. with a coffie place ect. thats what i have heard from folks working there. but it could change. so admiral way is the only place in the area for now.

AnonymousInactiveIsn’t there one on 35th across from Walgreens too?

charlabobParticipantYes, there is one on 35th. I’ve been looking for a laundromat that washes and folds for some amount a pound. In Brooklyn (yeah, that Brooklyn) it was ridiculously cheap.
Seems to me that businesses, such as laundromats, can thrive if they do extra services for extra money…it’s just the “machines in a row with bright lights” that don’t do so well.
In San Francisco (Oakland?) there was a laundromat that doubled as a music club, meet-up spot and (I think) bowling alley? It was doing well when we left — could be bankrupt by now.
Bottom line — I prefer not taking my clothes on field trips, but if there’s something else in it for me, I’d do it. :-)

JenVMembercharla- there used to be a place like that in Olympia-I think it was called the West Side Ale House? you could do your laundry and have a beer. I thought about it, then decided to just go to a regular laundromat. I was afraid I’d meet a cute guy…and then he’d see me washing my granny panties…. ;)

jMemberThere also used to be a laundromat downtown Seattle, the Sit and Spin, where you could do laundry and drink a beer, or eat a slice of pizza. It closed down in the last 5 years. Bummer…

AnonymousInactiveI loved the sit and spin. Never did my laundry there but the bands playing in the back were always fun.

Dave-AndersonMemberThanks for the tip Jiggers. I went to the one across from the Admiral Theater today. Now I need to figure out if there is a good Cafe/WIFI hotspot within walking distance. I miss being able to sit in Uptown Espresso, drink coffee and use the WIFI (for free) while waiting for my clothes to wash/dry.

pamMemberAlki Mail and Dispatch is down the hill on Admiral a bit for free wifi and coffee.

Dave-AndersonMemberSounds good Pam, I did a search on Jiwire’s hotspot locator (jiwire.com right side of the homepage) and found out Revolution Coffee and Art has free WiFi. I walked by Revolution after I already had a cup of Starbuck’s and wondered. I always pick a non-franchise coffee place if I can help it so I’ll have to try them out next time.

WSBKeymasterThe laundromat across from Walgreens closed in May:

The one on 35th at Webster is operated by the same folks who run PB&J Textiles and are working on a coffee place for an adjacent space:

Re: the Junction laundromat, we also heard it suggested that the parking crunch since the loss of the rear (ex-Petco) lot had something to do with it. — TR
