So the car shop at the corner of 35th/Holden is a total eyesore. Ignoring the hoard of beat-up cars (that are there to get fixed I hope), the building is falling apart, weeds everywhere. Unlike the gorgeous Swedish Automotive setup and the tidy WS Autoworks around it, this is just a sad state of affairs. The property has been showing up as pending-sale on Redfin forever. Does anybody know if there are plans to do something better at that location?

You know why it’s an eyesore ? Because his rates are AMAZING ! I live on Holden and the “Eyesore” you speak about is a place of buisness to a hard working honest mechanic. After driving Jeeps, Jetas, Volvos and taking them many places before, (some you have mentioned actually 😏) , when someone suggested Complete Auto Repair I was hesitant. I too, was judging a book by the cover. I am a women ( in my experience, sadly, I always get talked up in price when dealing with car stuff )and didn’t have any automotive knowledge, I just said, “here is my car please fix it”. He literally could have said anything, any price. I was trapped. it was my only vehicle. It was a $20 part and he charged me $60!! I have never went anywhere else since then. I have to say people tearing down everything and making them “shiny and new” is why the prices around here keep going up. Unfortunaely, it doesn’t mean the quality is. I hope you considerd the hard working people of these local westseattle buisnesses before publically putting them down for looks. Much less an auto repair place. Gorgeous and Tidy auto repair? Really??? Gag

I’ll second how great they are. The gentleman there saved our bacon at 5 minutes to closing. He came and helped move our truck and had it up and running a day later for a more than fair price. They have earned our repeat business.

You can relax, wsnoob, it won’t be long before whoever owns that property (If it’s the proprietor I’d be extremely surprised), will be cashing in on that valuable snippet of land soon enough and kicking the auto repair to the veritable curb.

Expect a multistory mixed-use shiny new building and the car repair shop either moved to White Center or gone altogether.

Is that a good thing? Depends on who you ask…

wake, FWIW, in checking Parcel Viewer, it appears the owner of the biz, is not the owner of the property.

This speculation is based on past knowledge, through a mutual friend from several years ago, in knowing the guy who “worked there”, apparently now owning the biz, from mentions here on WSB, in auto repair recommendation threads, etc.

Sounds like they are great mechanics and nice people. Great. Maybe they can charge $10 instead of $20 (cheap service yay) and let that place continue to look more like a slum; or charge $25 and fix some siding and run a well maintained business. I’m not asking for a Ferrari dealership with butlers serving espresso out front (wouldn’t complain if that happened though).

Looking at miws@ note about the assesor, even the King County assessor tagged the neighboring property with “Other Nuisances:Yes”. QED.

The other night I passed what used to be my auto repair garage on Capitol Hill. It’s a swanky bar now. Whether that’s an improvement depends on your point of view, I guess.
