JanSParticipantfor those on here who support Herman Cain…do you also support this? Does it matter that this is how he thinks? What he believes?
November 1, 2011 at 8:33 pm #738910
365StairsParticipantCain appears to be in target cross-hairs over lots of things he apparently did and denies or sort of denies doing…
Wonder what “serious” candidates believe…a) I will just acknowledge my past issues and nobody can hurt me…b) I will hide my past and hope and nobody can hurt me…
Candidates…psssst…hint…ALL things will be found out…and ALL things will hurt your perception!
November 1, 2011 at 8:58 pm #738911
thansenMemberHis goal is to sell his new book and make as much money as possible. He and his campaign are so disorganized that they clearly did not expect to become a front runner. Now, when all these things are coming out, he’s either going to have to get serious about running for president or drop out.
November 1, 2011 at 10:01 pm #738912
BostonmanMemberLOL all this kind of crap came out against Obama and it didn’t keep you from voting for him. I think its good for these stupid things to come out. I get to see how he handles the political heat. If he were to actually win the nomination the liberal media would be on him a lot worst than this.
On one point I agree with thansen, now that he is a front runner its time to put up or shut up. If you are serious about being president time to get organized. If not stop wasting everyones time.
November 1, 2011 at 10:36 pm #738913
365StairsParticipantWell Bostonman…the sound bites and video I saw yesterday had him taking about 4 changing positions on this in the span of a day…so…if he were a serious candidate…he doesn’t look too good now…and as far as pressure…no chance.
Not sure I remember Obama getting accused of and or being an alleged paying undisclosed $$ to the accusing party in a sexual harrassment case…and then denying anything. Refresh my memory…
November 1, 2011 at 11:06 pm #738914
BostonmanMemberWell number one as soon as he was accused he recused himself from his position and the Chief Legal officer and HR were allowed to independently investigate. They found no basis for the charge. The person was also paid some money but it was also done while he was not in position. He has gone on record saying if they got anything it was too much because he didn’t do anything wrong.
I didn’t say Obama was accused of sexual harrassment. I said this kind of crap meaning the whole thing with Reverend Wright. As far as sound bites go well I can find sound bites all day long and manipulate them to be what I want.
We will see in the end what happens.
November 1, 2011 at 11:41 pm #738915
JanSParticipantdid any of you read the link I provided? It has nothing to do with the sexual harassment charge. So, there’s more than one thing dogging this guy at the moment. And…now they are investigating illegal contributions from a non-profit. I don’t know about you but I would want the man running for president to at least know the rules, and I would hope he wouldn’t waffle on answers about sexual harassment charges. He didn’t quite remember? Give me a break…when you are charged with something like that, you don’t forget, no matter how inconsequential you try to make it.
November 2, 2011 at 4:03 am #738916
redblackParticipanti actually remember this right-wing allegation, but i dodn’t know that cain was pushing it.
the more i hear from that guy, the dumber i realize he is.
no. i’m serious. i think that that guy has a very low IQ, and he’s given me no reason to believe otherwise.
what? he wears glasses? does that make him look pensive and intellectual or something?
good luck.
as a matter of fact, i think i’m going to send his campaign $1,000.
is that legal?
November 2, 2011 at 4:58 am #738917
kootchmanMemberYea… a real dumbass..redblack. Morehead grad, Rutgers math grad, … businessman of unquestioned achievement. Low IQ eh? Where’s those math SAT’s of yours?
November 2, 2011 at 5:26 am #738918
dobroParticipantHerman Cain for prez?? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
November 2, 2011 at 6:05 am #738919
JanSParticipantwhether he’s smart or dumb, he is making mistakes. He has changed his position on things a few times, now. It seems that he wants to pander to the masses, and is making excuses…and I’m sorry, but some of us would just like him to be upront and honest. I don’t give a crap where he went to school..that doesn’t make him beyond reproach !
November 2, 2011 at 8:12 am #738920
dobroParticipantHe might win the presidential election in ubeki-beki-stan-stan. Karl Rove is gonna make sure he doesn’t beat Romney. Notice the leaked sexual harassment stuff, campaign finance scandals, plus in an interview today he didn’t seem to know that China has nuclear weapons. Pizzaman is toast. His 15 min. are almost over.
Bizman of unquestioned achievment? Maybe unquestioned by you…
“Cain has released no earnings statements either during the time he was at Godfather’s Pizza or since.
If we look at sales figures which are in the public record, sales at Godfather’s Pizza, adjusted for inflation dropped over 40% from the year before he took over to his final years. It is hard to imagine that profits went up at this time. Godfather’s Pizza fell from the 5th largest Pizza chain when Cain took over to the 11th largest Pizza chain by the time he left the company 15 years later.
Cain bought Godfather’s Pizza in a management leveraged buyout. In general, management leveraged buyouts are a device that company managers use to defraud stockholders of company profits. I believe the only reason there is no fraud in this case is because Cain was unable to produce any profits in the years he was CEO at Godfather’s pizza. In other words, it was a fraud scheme that failed due to Cain’s inept management.”
November 2, 2011 at 12:12 pm #738921
redblackParticipantcain’s demeanor and poise tell me that he can’t handle complex situations. he seems prone to quick anger. to me, those qualities make him look stupid.
and that matters to me. during the bush II reign, for the first time ever, i realized that i was smarter and more intellectually curious than the president of the united states.
i didn’t like that.
now, i’m sure w could press the flesh, he was folksy, he remembered people’s names years after having met them only once… a politician.
i went to IU. same school as dan quayle. does that make me a genius, kootch?
for one thing, SAT’s are not a measure of intelligence. they’re a measure of college preparedness. my SAT math scores sucked, even though i was in the 95th percentile of my high school graduating class in math.
but i’m not running for president.
thanks for the godfather’s pizza info, dobro. i was wondering why everyone is touting cain as some kind of impressive business mogul, when godfather’s pizza is pretty much nowhere.
what’s the cite on that quote?
and, again, what in the hell does owning a pizza chain have to do with being president, and why does that give him better qualifications than barack hussein obama?
anyway, i was hoping he’d at least wipe out santorum, bachmann, and ron paul before he flamed out.
next!
November 2, 2011 at 1:49 pm #738922
anonymeParticipantThe attack on Obama was not over anything he’d said himself, but due to ‘guilt by association’ with Reverend Wright. Cain is drawing heat for his own actions, his own comments.
November 2, 2011 at 4:04 pm #738923
dobroParticipantredblack, just google- cain + godfather’s pizza + failure – and you’ll find that quote and more. But there’s nothing to worry about with Cain. He has no chance at the nomination. Strictly amateur hour. His Repub opponents will make sure he goes down.
November 2, 2011 at 4:17 pm #738924
DBPMemberWe desperately need better Republican candidates, if only to keep Obama motivated.
Is Dan Savage still dabbling in Republicanism? I’d definitely consider him for Prez.
Pros:
—Scandal-proof. (Been there; done that.)
—A minority. (Not in Seattle, of course, but everywhere else.)
—Could help resolve Iran’s sexual hang-ups.
Cons:
—Hard to tell when he’s kidding sometimes.
—Would he have to give up “Savage Love”?
—Not sure the world is ready for a gay superpower.
November 4, 2011 at 4:21 am #738925
redblackParticipantdobro:
But there’s nothing to worry about with Cain.
worry about? ha!
i want to send money to that campaign.
btw, i just made up this joke:
Q: do you know the names of herman cain’s six children?
A: becky, becky, becky, becky, stan, and stan.
November 4, 2011 at 4:38 am #738926
kootchmanMemberredblack… no matter how badly he stumbles… it doen’t make The Messiah look any better. Although I trend towards Dobro … we will end up with a republican version of Obama.
November 4, 2011 at 1:16 pm #738927
redblackParticipantno, you’ll end up with willard romney, who is a lame version of ronald reagan.
November 4, 2011 at 4:22 pm #738928
365StairsParticipantSo…I have to ask…although I don’t want to…
If President Obama is so aweful and the alternative party is apparently not sending anyone to the plate that appears any different in your eyes…Who would make you happy as President or even a candidate Kootch (anyone)? Seriously.
In the current circumstances – even with 20/20 hindsight…would MCCain and Palin faired any better…done anything differently? We’ll never know for sure…but bottom line it…this president faced unmatched challenges in this term. Much of which out of his control and most attempts at solutions were balked by GOP filabustering…I don’t know much…that is clear…but I do know that the next president will face even tougher challenges than now…and there better be someone in place with really strong motivation to get up every day and face these head on. Further…those in the House and Senate had best start learning to put Americans first before Politics.
I too have some disenchanted views of our country right now…but not because of one person in DC…but the whole lot of them in front of the camera every day thinking they know what’s best for everyone…
November 4, 2011 at 4:38 pm #738929
JoBParticipant365 stairs…
you are right…
this isn’t so much about one candidate as about the philosophy that winner takes all…
all being the American middle class taxpayer’s pocketbooks
and that the end justifies the means.
That’s about as opposite to the notion of democracy as you can get
but it is what is used to justify the kinds of obstructionism and cronyism that have every worker concerned for their jobs and is making increasing numbers of retirees homeless…
people who worked their entire lives for the social security they thought they wouldn’t have to depend upon because they had pensions..
that is until winner takes all bankrupted their pensions in reorganization bankruptcies that left the companies and investors more profit than ever but decimated the worker’s pensions…
November 4, 2011 at 5:18 pm #738930
365StairsParticipantAnd…in my dream world…I see the powerful media talking heads…(from all sides)…Rush, Hannity, Oberman, Maddow…actually assisting the American values they report about with solution based discussions vs. back to back attacks on each other… I trump your comment with this research and bias reporting opinion blather…
All this pubic grand standing (from media and politicians) does is further perpetuate the problems and further mis-shape views and opinions – where folks then think because Rush or Oberman (and other ilk) said it…it MUST be true…so there…Blah..Blah…
Think for yourselves people! Use your vote wisely…I have a feeling…this next election might actually count for something…or really hurt…
November 4, 2011 at 5:25 pm #738931
JoBParticipant365stairs
i have to believe it will really count for something
i have loved my country enough not to leave it for nearly 50 years now… i was politically active by the time i was 14…
but for the first time I am beginning to think of leaving as the only viable option for our retirement.
we can’t afford for hubby to retire for another decade so leaving isn’t really a viable option right now.
this election matters too much.
it has to count for something.
there are too many of us who count on it.

HMC RichParticipantJan, regarding the New Yorker article, another opinion hit piece on Republicans. They can say what they want but I believe Carville said… it’s the economy stupid. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if they are partisan. Such is life.
I am glad you pointed me to the original link. Above the story you wanted us to read is a Link that I found quite interesting. You know, the one about Wall Street flourishing more since Obama came into office? Here is the link http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/11/07/362488/wall-street-profit-obama-bush/
To your point. Many of us on the right think that Planned Parenthood hurts the black community substantially. We find disconcerting if not offensive for so many abortions to be available and we find labeling a group of people offensive. Too many well intentioned but misguided progressive policies have hurt the black family. LBJ thought his career was over with his party because he was pushing civil rights. But the Republicans were with him.
God Forbid a business savvy black conservative end up being President some day. That would certainly show that every person of color does not need the government looking out for them.
Some of you will find my rant prejudiced. It is not. I personally am mystified as to why Red Black calls Cain dumb when Senator Obama made tons of gaffes. But Obama had a friendly beltway media. Cain has conservative radio, but the Politico story was not full of facts, mostly conjecture. Journalism, whether right or left needs facts.
Back to the point. I believe Mr. Cain wants what is best for all people, and he sees people of color not even given a chance at life. I am glad he speaks out.
I had some good tangents to go of on but I wanted to keep the post from being too long.
