I was referring to the “national brands” charge on our receipt for $4.50 or so that didn’t match up to anything we bought, and everything else was accounted for. when we asked the manager – she said that’s the line item for cigarettes, and was very nice about refunding our money.

Perhaps it was an honest mistake, but it was the same person who made the mistake, on more than one occasion.

    HMC Rich – Nice Job!

Now that you mention it, Grace has a strange physical and cerebral resemblance to Flounder.

But, on second thought she has a lot more in common with Bluto. I can’t wait to hear her say “Christ, seven years of college (scratch that)running SDOT, down the drain” then drive off into the sunset with Babs, played by her second biggest fan, Tim Ceis (it’s all about the hair).

I use puppy perfectors. She works out of Seattle Dog Accademy. I have taken both of my dogs and dogs that I rescue. I am able to use it now with out going to her. I just do the basics. Ahimsa, is a bit pricey. There is nothing wrong with snapping a leash. Most people who know my dogs now how well behaved they are.

Hey I’m Rich, but in name only. I like Thriftway. They are not perfect but it is your responsibility to check to see if any mistakes were made at the checkout stand.

If your “luck” is bad at this store, go elsewhere.

Some relatives of mine were visiting from Georgia. They raved about the store, the selection, and the people. They said they do not have anything close to that type of store. They liked it better than the Metropolitan Market also.

I have had to take back an item or two but that happens at most of the area grocery stores I go to. I have had a few items that went past their sell by date. I am guilty of not always checking the dates! No Problem. I just took them back.

It stinks when someone makes an error and it happens to affect you. We can all empathize. Usually when you go back you get numerous apologies and the issue is corrected.

    Caveat Emptor!

Hey! Could you use a 10′ or so alder tree? We have one that has grown in a plastic pot that it’s going to bust one of these days. I need to get it out of the front yard because it is blocking what view we have left after the neighbors built a second-story addition blocking half of our original peek view (now a “peeklet”). Should be easily transplantable, just cut the pot away or turn it over …

Does everyone know that many browsers have a built in spell check?

    .

I use Firefox, and when I make a typo the word in question will appear with an underline.

    .

Place your cursor somewhere in the word and right click. You should see a list of choices for replacements. Even an option to add a word to the dictionary.

    .

Will not catch the grammar and punctuation though.

I’ve been to both. I also have some formal background in dog training myself, though I am not currently using it with clients, just with my own dogs.

Jeff Tinsley at Sound Animals is a decent trainer. Not the best I’ve seen, but far from the worst. If you attend one of Jeff’s classes, you’ll get a better-than-average experience out of it. Where Jeff really excels is one-on-one client training. I have heard from lots of folks who rave about his home visits. He is a very traditional style trainer: positive, rewards-based, but not aggressive (no “dominate your dog” Cesar Millan type stuff).

I have less experience with Ahimsa Dog Training. What you will want to understand about them is that they are 100% “positive training”. That means no leash popping, no aversive “correction” techniques at all. They train with completely “positive” reinforcement methods. To most people this means clicker training: using a tiny hand-held box which makes a clicking sound. You teach your dog to associate the click with good things (i.e., treats), and when they do something right, you click and the dog gets a treat. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with this kind of training, but it seems hard for many people to grasp. It requires an excellent sense of timing, good observation skills, and a quick hand. I also do not know how they manage training with a dog who is not food motivated. That said, I have also heard that Ahimsa is particularly skilled with rehabilitating aggressive or “growly” dogs.

Bottom line: neither place is bad. They both have stellar reputations, and you’ll get decent training advice from either. It just depends on what training style you are looking for.

    Hi Everyone!

The nasty, rat infested, dilapidated, unsafe for human use house was finally torn down on the plot behind me, and is now a razed empty hole.

If you, or your friends need a good home for plant life you no longer need, or have room for, and are feeling charitable please PM me – if you are curious I can give you the general location of the lot.

The owner has no plans for development, and neighbors have been given permission to plant. I would love to build up the plant life for what was destroyed: 100+ year old holly tree, lots of grasses, 4-5 other misc large trees, flowers like bluebells, tulips etc…

Whatever you have I’ll take it and find a way to get it there.

    Thanks!

There is no quieter alternative to Admiral that’s not steep, so I’ll give you that. Any amount of steepness is better than walking up and down Admiral in my view.

Strollers are absolutely necessary if you wanna go places without a car. It’s not just a cup holder, it’s a diaper bag holder, a grocery holder, and an everything else holder that most people just get to throw in the trunk of their car.

Taco Del Rey was the taco truck by HD last time I looked.

As reported in yesterday’s story, “The Cowboys” (who I’m still trying to research) have received the parks contract for soft-serve ice cream and snacks at Colman Pool and Alki this summer.

Tony’s roasted corn is just part of Tony’s.

And I haven’t heard back yet from Rancho Bravo regarding their alleged impending arrival somewhere in The Triangle.

I love Thriftway, too. I experienced a minor customer service problem a few months ago, but when I sent a note about it through the store’s Web site, the manager went above and beyond to correct it. He seems to really care.

eschoonover, sorry your experience was less than great. Give them another chance.

I also “heart” Thriftway. The store is always clean and easy to get around. They call for front help when busy, and the customer service desk has always been helpful (especially Chad). I really like seeing the Managers and Asst Managers working along side the staff, great example.

I so totally add to the kudos for Bee Waxed. I have finally found the perfect place for my brows after searching for years. In fact, I was just in to see Bren last week and noticed that she had a newly framed article from Allure magazine on the wall – the blurb was about her spa. When I asked her about it she said the magazine had “mystery shopped” her and then put a plug in this month’s issue for her business. What a nice honor I thought!

Jan, that’s exactly the problem — we here in the public will tell them — and we’ll tell them slightly different things and someone needs to mediate. I don’t know anything about SDOT consultants, but I do know consultants are often needed to mediate input from the public.

For example, conventional wisdom says that the snow plows were all over here in WS, plowing the mayor’s street. I live three blocks from the mayor and I can assure you, that’s not where they were. :-) Turns out, the true “accusation” is that they plowed downtown streets so he could get to work. I suspect a lot of other people drove on the same streets. (Besides, he goes to work in a giant SUV — nothing will stop him.)

I’m not defending the mayor or the plowing — just pointing out that the one true reality isn’t always found by talking to the public. (Imagine if anyone tried to decide what to do based on the postings in these forums.)

Now I’ll crawl back into my bunker. :-)

wow..this seems so much more relevant now, as the OP was nailed waiting for a light by a hit and run, presumably, drunk driver , last night at the Morgan St main intersection (see other post re:accident)…

    Vincent, “no” to what?

The route jeffro describes is steep as dook, it would be a biz tastard to go up it with a stroller. Maybe one of those wearable babies you see people with.
