I travel abroad quite a bit and have noticed that other cultures have very uniform behaviors in regards to driving, walking in heavily trafficked places. Slow people stay to the side, fast people have space to run/rush and cars park the same way. There seems to be no agreement here as to where and how to walk/drive, add self-entitlement to the mix and there’s a lot of road rage. I have had men walk so close behind me that one guy fell when I slowed down (I was to the right, not hogging the sidewalk). I have had people stare right at me and walk into me (I had nowhere to go). People seem to think they are entitled to hog the sidewalk, weave. My biggest headache, though, is car drivers hogging the sidewalks and crosswalks. Rich people love to make eye contact and wave as they cut me off and/or block sidewalks when they pull in and out of driveways and parking lots. It’s weird and while it happens all over this country, Seattle car drivers are especially mean this way. I almost got hit in the alley by a speeding (yelling) driver this morning for no reason.
I am looking for a family to share a full time day care spot. I only need to enroll my infant son on Mondays and Tuesdays, but have been unable to find part time care. I have secured a full time spot at a very nice licensed facility, but would like to avoid paying for full time care if possible. I would like to find someone who wishes to have their child in day care on Wednesday, Thursdays, Fridays. It would also be helpful if our children were around the same age (currently 8 months) so they could transition through the school at similar times. The enrollment would begin September 12, 2016. Please contact me at msklapstein@gmail.com for details.
Thanks,
Cassie
It’s a Comcast Business outage – I don’t always see forum posts but West Seattle Cyclery e-mailed us and we have a news item about it on the main page. We’re monitoring Comcast Business twitter, which acknowledged it within the past hour – Tracy
land line at deVrieze | Carney law firm is out. Comcast says down until 3:30 – 4pm today. Internet is working but not phones. Phone message states we have a non-working number. Not true. We are working but the phones are not.

I was just going to suggest the Chief Sealth basketball camp but just looked and it is full. :( Very popular! You can always check with the YMCA, they usually have room.
Our land line stopped working yesterday afternoon, and apparently there’s an area-wide outage; not sure how large it extends. We’re in the Arbor Heights area.
I have two boys (ages 7 and 11) visiting in early August and I’m looking for a week camp or activities that they could participate in. Does anyone know of any programs that still have space or that I might want to check out?

Junction Joe..
The help had already been delivered..
Who exactly was your target if not the people who chose to suspend their risk and help the OP?
You made your personal choice about this OP and her request…
and i for one am more than glad to honor your right to that choice.
i make those choices each and every time someone asks for my help.
what i have a problem with is the thinking that your choice should dictate the choices of others…
and i am thinking that if you were the one being criticized for your generosity…
you would have a similar problem ..

ok.. good case of post surgical muddle..
i posted my comment on the other thread..
operator error indeed.. and i am the operator who errored.
“i don’t know why what i posted earlier didn’t show up..but i will post it again… as best i can. I am in a bit of a post surgery muddle.
i can understand why some of you are sceptical of this OP. first she asks for donations for pet care and then for additional donations for cremation.. literally the same day… and she is less than appreciative or patient with the speed of the help she thinks she should be getting from volunteer agencies… totally forgetting that volunteer agencies are run by volunteers who have life crisis of their own to deal with…
watching her process unfold wasn’t particularly attractive… but then.. people are not at their most attractive or patient when they are dealing with what they see as overwhelming circumstances.. so.. who knows?
What i can’t get is why anyone would come onto the forum to belittle people who made the choice to give.
it’s not as though belittling those who make a different choice than you do verifies the accuracy of your own choice and it sure as heck doesn’t make you look like the better person.
every time we are asked to give to another.. even if we think we know them well.. we run the risk of feeling taken in.. .perhaps only because they didn’t make the choices with their funds that we would have wanted them to make.. but also perhaps because they scammed us big time.
that’s the nature of the beast. If you are kind some people will take advantage of you.
but.. that’s the choice all of us who choose to give make every time we give… to give in spite of the very real risk that we could end up feeling taken advantage of…
if you don’t want to make that choice, don’t make it.. but don’t think that your choice entitles you to the right to judge what we do with our money for people we may or may not know… in circumstances we may or may not know more about than you do.
it doesn’t.
thank goodness that raining on everyone else’s parade won’t change the choices their heart makes when they encounter a fellow human being in trouble…
and who knows.. at the end of the day you might be eternally grateful that it didn’t.
none of us ever knows when we will need help.”
headed back to bed without posting more :(

Nope. Certainly not privileged, but I do take full responsibility for personal consumption and nonessential expenditures. I would never ask a stranger to pay for a pet urn and urn necklace. This is not an emergency that requires solitation to the community. Requests like this take away from the real emergency needs that are out there.
No worries then. Take some drugs, get some sleep…
So I’m watching the Dallas police chief defend using the robot, and musing about what we’re told.
The shooter was black, and killed by police. So does he go into the stats that way? And the police chief is black. Is being killed by a white cop different from being killed by a black cop?
Not sure those are good for discussion. Mostly I’m saying that I mistrust nearly everyone as having ignored confounding factors like that.
Today and tomorrow – there’s $40 off a variety of Amazon Home Services, including house cleaning, tv wall mounting, carpet cleaning, window washing, pressure washing, yard work, etc. The cost for 3 hours of cleaning in my zip code comes out to $49.
I work there, and I’m pretty excited about it. :) Thought you guys might also appreciate it. I love my group, and that we give local small businesses access to our huge network, and do great promotion offers like this one.

no anger JKB..
just an old broad struggling to stay coherant on the kinds of pain meds you get after major surgery..
and thanks. i am doing fine
But I like rhetorical questions!
To wit, I believe in an objective reality. One is, or is not, a terrorist (or whatever else) regardless of what some person thinks.
I was struck by the different coverage: in Orlando it was discussed as an essential question, and in Dallas it’s not there at all. Same for the hate-crime classification.
JoB, I’m hearing a lot of anger in your post. Mad at me about something?
TanDL, definite yes. Big thumbs-up for the BBC.

There is really no way to police bicycles in the city. It’s really up to the cyclist. I see plenty of motorists in the city that do not stop for people trying to cross the street. There are plenty of things out there that get peoples knickers all twisted. Suck it up and just learn to get along with one another.
Throwing on the cargo shorts over the jeans was probably your first mistake, DN. But on the off-chance that this is a serious post, I’ll share that in my years of daily walks around WS, I’ve often encountered people speaking loudly about things that didn’t have anything to do with their immediate surroundings, let alone me. Next time, try looking up and waving. Never underestimate the power of eye contact, and a wave makes them stop and think, “Oh, do I know that guy?” It also establishes your right to be where you are. In closer quarters, a friendly version of “I’m sorry, I was distracted. Did you say something to me?” usually works. Or take a tip from the birding community, doff your hoodie, and say, “Pardon me, but do you know where I might see the Pidgey?”
