Another aerial view of West Seattle: Admiral, Duwamish Head…

That’s another spectacular view of West Seattle from the sky (note Seacrest and Don Armeni toward right-center), shared by Gatewood pilot Long Nguyen, who took the two we published here. He actually sent three recent photos, and we’re planning to showcase one each day through Labor Day. Click here for a larger version of this one.

Previously known as “Bear’s Head” by natives before us “white devils” and our ensuing centuries of opprobrium.
I always wonder how the native americans attained sufficient perspective to name it “Bear’s Head?”

Probably hopped in their canoes, paddled across the bay to Magnolia Bluff or Queen Anne Hill beaches, hopped out of their canoes and hiked up the hills. The shape is viewable from there.

I have been a long time friend of Long Nguyen and his great wife Kat. Long is an amazing person who has an amazing life story. Check out his story at http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009670187_mcap16.html and his pictures at http://www.pbase.com/longbachnguyen/root.

Zippy, thank you. Had no idea. Just read that story twice and it doesn’t say “West Seattle” anywhere – so I don’t feel so bad for not having known :) plus his notes to us were very brief, just that he’s a pilot and here are some photos he thought West Seattle neighbors might want to see. I’m publishing another one later today and will include the link you kindly point us to – TR
