Update: Police arrest Skyelar Hailey; he’s now in jail

ORIGINAL 10:57 PM REPORT: Just got a trustable tip that Skyelar Hailey, the 18-year-old repeat offender who fled police trying to arrest him on warrants last night, resulting in an air/ground/K-9 search, has just been taken into custody in the Admiral area. Will update when officially confirmed, though that might not be till he shows up on the jail register. The photo at left, by the way, is the official mug shot from Hailey’s last jail booking in February, according to the source who sent it to us tonight (our requests to get it through official channels had all been denied). Here’s our archived coverage, newest to oldest.

2:10 AM UPDATE: Confirmation just appeared on the King County Jail Register — Hailey was booked into the jail half an hour ago.

THURSDAY MORNING UPDATE: Bail information is updated on Hailey’s jail listing — “bail denied” for the two theft-related warrants, $5,000 bail for the warrant related to the protection-order violation.

Great news! Thanks for the update! I’ll sleep a bit more soundly tonight I hope… :)

  • Thanks April 22, 2009 (11:02 pm)

Good tip and thanks for keeping us in the loop…so over crime in our neighborhood, or anywhere else…pisses me off.

  • JanS April 22, 2009 (11:53 pm)

    thanks for the update, TR…

  • WSB April 23, 2009 (12:02 am)

Still watching the jail register, nothing yet, but processing can sometimes take a few hours … TR

  • amused April 23, 2009 (12:11 am)

How long will the non-judicial system keep him this time????

  • WSB April 23, 2009 (12:21 am)

I’m still planning to go to court Friday afternoon for the sentencing hearing, unless it’s called off. As noted in one of our reports earlier today, the prosecutor’s office spokesperson told me that the eluding incident could be grounds to scrap the plea deal in that case and go for a more serious sentence … plus of course we’ll see what charges result from the eluding incident itself … TR

  • Mookie April 23, 2009 (12:41 am)

Very glad to see they picked him up – good work SPD.

I’d like to see some consequences piled on for violating that domestic protection order, but holding my breath…

  • BusinessOwner April 23, 2009 (12:41 am)

You WSB’ers are really on top of this guy! If you people put this much emphasis on sex offenders WS might be free of them . . . Oh, wait . . . they deserve their privacy!

  • Mookie April 23, 2009 (12:42 am)

    er, NOT holding my breath…

  • WSB April 23, 2009 (12:55 am)

Actually we have mentioned the sex-offender database website multiple times. Its link has been on our Crime Watch page for months.
    http://www.icrimewatch.net/washington.php
    .
In most cases, though, those are not people being sought – they are required by law to register, and their photos are put up online publicly. Unlike, say, the mug shot we kept trying all day to OFFICIALLY procure in this case.
    .
And the last time there was a registered sex offender notably on the lam after a helicopter search, we published multiple followups – here’s the archive of mentions (the mug shot was available here precisely because it was on the sex offender website):
    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?s=%22richard+lovejoy%22

    …Just for the record.

  • jeannie April 23, 2009 (12:59 am)

Good news: This scumbag has been caught.
Bad news: If he goes to jail, he’ll probably be released again within a few months. And, somehow, I doubt he will come out a changed man, a pillar of society. Our criminal-justice system is a misnomer.

  • Scott April 23, 2009 (2:35 am)

I’m sure his Mother is proud of her son… will tell us all what a good boy he is and how society has misunderstood him.

  • wssince1966 April 23, 2009 (7:33 am)

The blog did a great job of covering the Lovejoy case from the middle of the night to his sentencing. Hopefully the prosecutors read this blog and will be aware that a whole region is looking at how they handle high impact offenders such as Skyelar and Lovejoy. If I was a bad guy, I would check WSB and then start running even faster knowing that the neighborhood knew who I was, and were being informed of every play by playupdate possible. Dont forget that its the cops who actually catch these cretons. Any timely tips should get to then as soon as possible.

  • Thanks April 23, 2009 (8:08 am)

Yes to WSB…businessowner above is totally off base on this. thanks for clarifying WSB.

  • wsmom April 23, 2009 (8:30 am)

sad, he looks like a tired 30 year old, not an 18 year old kid

  • Irukandji April 23, 2009 (8:56 am)

Any time he’s locked up he’s not burglarizing the neighbors and selling drugs to high school and middle school kids. Looking forward to what happens in the Friday hearing.

  • MrJT April 23, 2009 (9:20 am)

How long until we hear that “he was just turning his life around”? Nice work WSB and Irukandji…

  • Johnny Davies April 23, 2009 (9:31 am)

    mood update: incarcerated, incapacitated.

  • Irukandji April 23, 2009 (9:31 am)

    It takes a village :).

  • Note April 23, 2009 (9:42 am)

Thanks WSB! Really…just how hard do you rock!

  • WSB April 23, 2009 (9:46 am)

As Iruk notes, it DOES take a village – for true 24/7 news coverage, too. It’s the tipsters, the community members, the unidentified sources who contributed photos/info while the search was on – we just put it all together, while also embarking on additional investigating, monitoring, digging, etc. Thanks to everyone who makes this a real community-news service (and joins us in the 24/7 effort). P.S. Just added a couple new details from the jail register. Will also be checking further with prosecutors etc. and will add info here as it develops – TR

  • blockwatchmantra April 23, 2009 (10:12 am)

    Johnny Davies –

    LOL!

  • lrav April 23, 2009 (10:27 am)

Skyelar is a drug addict who will do whatever it takes to get through the day.

  • Lindsey April 23, 2009 (10:35 am)

    I’m praying for him.

  • Lindsey April 23, 2009 (10:36 am)

I’m very sorry for the people he victimized. There is no happiness in this story. I hope he gets the help he needs.

  • rykrite April 23, 2009 (11:17 am)

Lrukandji, it does take a village, and I accept your joke.
    .
Now this village will pay: pay to have him incarcerated, and then, when he is released, pay for his anger and possibly his re-incarceration for new crimes. We will pay, and pay, and pay. Skyelar will pay, too – his is not a happy life.
    .
Lindsey, I agree with you 100%.

  • wssince1966 April 23, 2009 (12:41 pm)

Maybe if he was held accountable for his earlier juvenile crimes, such as robbing onnocent folks of their laptops at coffee shops, he wouldn’t be this mess now after victimizing even more folks.
How about a strong message from the courts the first time a felony is committed?????

  • Leroniusmonkfish April 23, 2009 (2:34 pm)

I was wondering if the Sherrif’s Dept. can tack on the cost of utilizing the helicopter to the list of taxpayer costs this kid has racked up and apply this to his debt to society if/when he is released? This is the case with search and rescue teams when they deem that the person was negligent in their planning and obviously his actions to date have been extremely ignorant, negligent, selfish, ect…

Here in AZ they have a “Stupid Motorist Law” that fines you $2000 if you drive around barricades into and enter a flooded stretch of roadway and in turn need to have your ass rescued.

If it’s a Bell 206L – LongRanger that was used it would run $1,900.00 an hour if you or I wanted to charter one out of KBFI.

Just a thought….glad to see he’s off the streets for the timebeing. I remember seeing him in the Admiral area hanging out around the bus stops when I lived in the area.

  • Keepmynameout yourmouth April 23, 2009 (5:27 pm)

  • WSB April 23, 2009 (5:32 pm)

Normally we would automatically delete a comment like that but we thought it might be worth letting go through for a while. Tracing info in our admin end, of course.

  • another neighbor April 23, 2009 (5:43 pm)

There’s nothing posted that a simple search, or history of searches, wouldn’t provide. It’s all in or has been in the public domain. Sorry the expanded fame is so upsetting.

  • Misty April 23, 2009 (6:33 pm)

That sounds like a threat to me. I hope you report this blog entry to the authorities.

  • zero-to-life in West Seattle April 23, 2009 (6:59 pm)

Okay, I feel remorse now for my mean comment. But really, I have been reading about this young man for months now, and all the trouble he has been causing. I understand people mess up, but he needs to redeem himself to his community. People are quite forgiving when others turn their lives around. I hope that he does.

  • Sunshine&Light April 23, 2009 (9:16 pm)

    Keepmynameout yourmouth,
All us ‘people’ HAVE ‘jobs’ and ‘lives’.
That’s why we aren’t going to put up with crap from degenerates like this ‘kat’.
Grow up & get a job. And a life.

  • Leroniusmonkfish April 24, 2009 (1:33 am)

Sorry (Keepmynameout yourmouth), but I don’t quite get this kinda dialogue? Keep supporting kids/kats like this my friend. Did you, yourself have any kind of positive influence on Skyelar’s life or should you be his roomate?…People here posting on the WSB are either fed up with having been on the downside of his recent and past endeavors and/or are concerned as to why his life turned out this way and what can be done to redirect his energy…

  • Your Mangina April 24, 2009 (7:57 am)

    Dear Mr. Mouthshut,

Feel free to reduce criminal activity and keep your name out of the news. Another option is to have no public information available. Even your ‘private’ MySpace page provides basic info and photo, and court records are all available with the search of a name.

Perhaps you’ve missed all those ‘how not to blow it when applying for a job’ articles.

  • wssince1966 April 24, 2009 (8:21 am)

Name-mouth dude or dudette, post your actual name and I will post your myspace. Then we can meet in person and talk about it. Why defend someone who has a long criminal history unless you too are worried that you will be then next one to be caught.
I would say that this blog is effective since you know about it and seem to have a substantial reaction to it’s presence.

  • deckard April 24, 2009 (10:42 am)

Bring it on………..Poke “yourmouth” through my door, and you will meet up with a freind of mine. His name is Glock. When will you, and guys like you, realize that us common people have backbone, and that we will tolerate only so much before we start pushing back. We have worked hard for our children and our lives and houses and cars. And we are not about to just lay down and let you rape us of our neighborhood. If you don’t like the treatment you are getting here, then feel free to leave. Or, feel free to stay, as long as you obey the laws. That is all we ask. The same laws that protect me, protects you. Agree with them or not, you must abide by them.
Put your thinking cap on and ponder these words: “There is no Liberty without Laws. There are no Rights without Responsibilities. If there are no Rules, then we all become Fools.”
You are not “entitled” to a living on the backs of others. Get a life.

  • Keepmynameout yourmouth April 24, 2009 (12:19 pm)

just so all of you know i do understand i don’t want people running around town stealing and killing i respect life and privacy of others which you guys do not.I believe a man is innocent until proven guilty. You losers have nothing to do i’m trying to improve our community be being out in it not on my computer.Unlike like most peoples.if you think i’m a thug you got me wrong i work all the time.If you guys don’t like my freedom of speech i could care less.Sorry little misty for scaring you you better go put another deadbolt on your door. And guess what freedom of speech is still legal so there isn’t much you can do since this is an open blogg.I’m also sorry about caring about these young kids that are pushed through the system then sh*t out the other end with no future other than taking form other is the only way they no to live and we all have a rights to live.If i have to steal food to live i would because i have to survive by any means that is life humans don’t just lay down and give up.Also to Mr glock in your mouth i see you like quotes so do i here you go one of my favorites cause it true and it’s happaning as we speak.

remember that “A government big enough to give you
everything you want, is big enough to take away everything
    you have” – Thomas Jefferson
I would like to thank you guys for showing me that there is no such thing as privacy.
And yes hooked on phonics did not work for me cause i went to your public schools. So you thank your self for that.that is good as it gets with public education. At least i can spell education.

  • Lachlan April 24, 2009 (12:41 pm)

Keepmynameout yourmouth, your point will fall on deaf ears as long as you come out swinging, with poor grammar (instead of blaming the schools for past failures, why don’t you fix your writing and grammar issues now?), and accuse people you know NOTHING about of not caring, being uninvolved, being jerks, etc etc.

Your comments only serve to inflame and if you were truly interested in community harmony, you wouldn’t be making them in the first place.

  • Your Mangina April 24, 2009 (2:31 pm)

When around here, Skyelar sure wasn’t stealing food. He was after credit cards, jewelry, and whatever he could steal from peoples’ cars. Seems the job he chose is selling drugs to kids. System or no system, he could behave honorably or not. He’s obviously chosen NOT and will be back on the streets, sneaking into basements, and stealing again in no time. Perhaps you have it in you to take him in, educate and enlighten him, and feed him so he doesn’t have to continue along doing the same ol’ same ol’.

  • Keepmynameout yourmouth April 24, 2009 (3:36 pm)

my bad grammer is not the issue here.Sorry all of you people had great family life being fed with a silver spoon. Not everyone had a great life like all of you.Wow I admire you guys i bet all of you bloggers on here are white?
Not that color is the issue your ignorance is.
West seattle sucks anyway rundown nothing but negative.thank you guys for making me realize that i’m a good person.only the gods should judge us so i don’t care what you say to me.
I choose to say what i feel cause i have that right stupid or not.I have that right to voice my opinion.

  • know that we know nothing April 24, 2009 (3:46 pm)

Get a life and a job real original i bet that got him in the hart.I bet he does have a job.
Most homeless don’t have a computer cause they don’t have homes!

  • zero-to-life in West Seattle April 24, 2009 (4:33 pm)

I went to public school too. In fact, I went to a school that most of you wouldn’t even consider, Rainier Beach. My family-life was not idyllic. Most of the people I know went to public school and worked hard to get where they are at. I have had family and friends that made the choice to break laws, and were punished for it (as they should have been). It isn’t a matter of ignorance or having things handed to you, it’s a matter of self-respect and respect for others in the community. When the only way of expressing yourself on a blog is through your writing, presentation is even more important. I get that you are not looking for sympathy, but don’t you want others to hear what you are trying to say?

  • BusinessOwner April 24, 2009 (9:58 pm)

    WSB – I didn’t know . . . thanks.

  • WTF April 25, 2009 (10:12 pm)

How many times does this piece of S#!+ have to get arrested before they will just leave him in jail?

  • KateMcA April 29, 2009 (4:20 pm)

Really, no such thing as privacy? Then don’t post information you don’t want people to see and be able to use against you on Myspace! Of course there is no such thing as privacy if you put your personal info in the public domain. I’m sure people could track me down from some of the comments made on here, but these comments just reflect my own opinion. Someone as interested in Hailey’s rights to be proven innocent or guilty in court should at least extend everyone else the right to express their opinion that the people who commit crime in the neighborhoods that we pay dearly to live in are scum.

Sorry, comment time is over.
