Twilight Art theft followup: “Turning a bad thing into a good thing”

(multimedia encaustic by Cyn Moore, stolen from Twilight yesterday)
That’s how Mary at Twilight Artist Collective in The Junction headed what they just sent as a followup to yesterday’s theft (WSB story here), along with the image above. Here’s the “good thing” part:

What type of person STEALS art?

Think your holidays suck? Imagine the poor soul who had to resort to stealing 4 pieces of Art from Twilight…Imagine not being able to buy your loved one a gift. So we’re hosting a gift drop-off for foster kids at Twilight…Don’t have a toy to drop off? We’ll donate 10% of proceeds from sales today and tomorrow to Treehouse for Kids.

ABOUT TREEHOUSE
Since 1988, Treehouse has filled the gaps for kids in foster care, providing services that no other agency addresses: money for extra-curricular activities and summer camp, professional educational support services, resources to fully participate in the everyday activities of growing up, clothing and supplies to help them fit in at school. www.treehouse4kids.org

ABOUT TWILIGHT
Twilight Artist Collective is a high energy, creative group of artists focused on providing the venue for other local artists to share inspiration, expose people to original ideas through art, and build a sustainable artist community. We are committed to making art a part of our everyday lives, and strive to be the catalyst for a greater collection, exhibition and appreciation of fine art.

In addition to exhibiting throughout the region, the Twilight Artist Collective also operates two stores, one in Pike Place Market and the other in the West Seattle Junction, where they show and sell work from all the artists in the collective. The store offers fine art in a variety of mediums including: paintings, photography, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, clothing and much more. Please visit www.twilightart.net or our store for more information about the collective and our unique art from local artists.

ladies at twilight – do the toys have to be brand new? I have some gently used toys that I would like to donate.

I just talked to Treehouse. They are planning to take stuff over today but are going to continue to take stuff over after Christmas. This includes near and nearly new (as in NOT your crappy broken down jacked up janky items) toys and clothes for foster kids. Good to know as I can’t get there before they go!

What kind of person steals ANYTHING?

I love Twilight, it’s one of my must-visit stores when I’m in West Seattle. Good luck gals! Merry Christmas!

Hello! toys, clothing, supplies etc. need to be nearly new or new. We’ll run a load over after the holidays. Treehouse supports foster kids year round and is truly a fantastic organization.

ps. that was me you spoke with ellenater not Treehouse ;)

“What kind of person steals ANYTHING?”
Orphans, ironically. Haha, sorry… I just watched “Oliver Twist” on cable.
Twilight is the best and West Seattle is lucky to have it.

    Hi Mary!

When people start talking about “kinds” of people it opens the door to so many dark things. It’s an easy way to pretend that not every single one of us could have ended up being in that person’s position, a way for us to try to take the parts of our own humanity or the society that we all create together that we don’t like and dump in on someone else, using people like garbage cans.

Thank you Twilight Art people for your good example and your hearts. May you be a cornerstone of this community for many many years to come.

What kind of person steals anything? Someone desperate, out of money, out of a job during the biggest holiday season of the year. Maybe they have kids. Maybe it was a choice between food and gifts.

Regardless, it’s a shame to see the store and the artists lose out, but I have to say that the heart that goes into a response like this is especially heart warming to see! Thank you for adding that extra amount of light to a season that’s being hard for a lot of people this year!

What hours will twilight be open tomorrow?
We may be able to stop by before we leave WS for Christmas events.

  • WSB December 23, 2008 (6:43 pm)

Looks like they’re usually open til 7 but tomorrow may depend on what the overnight snow is like etc. I’d suggest calling them in the late morning:
    933.2444
I will also e-mail them back to ask that they let us know so we can post a reminder tomorrow – TR
