UPDATE: South Alki power outage

9:56 AM: 911 callers from Beach Drive just reported “a loud explosion, and then the power went out” – and indeed, the Seattle City Light outage map shows 262 customers out of power in South Alki, as of 9:48 am. No word yet on the exact cause but the “explosion” generally suggests an equipment problem – atop a pole, for example.

10:09 AM: Pole-top problems also can be caused by wildlife – and commenter Lamont‘s observation of a dead pigeon beneath a pole at 61st/Beach Drive indicates that’s what likely happened here.

12:33 PM: We’ve been unable to update till now but Lamont noted in another comment that the power was restored shortly after 10:30 am – so the outage lasted less than an hour.

Fresh dead pigeon at the corner of 61st and Beach Dr, underneath a power pole.

      That’s often a cause of “boom/out” too …. bird’s unfortunate end.

Yeah, this isn’t the first time.  I’m pretty sure I reported a dead crow in the exact same spot several years back.  I know exactly where to look now.
